Hudson Race Report May 16th
Hudson NH – John Morin Jr. won his first Rookie Stock feature race of the 2010 Hudson Speedway racing season on Sunday May 16th in dramatic fashion. John Cashman led the early laps of the twenty lap feature until Keith ”Slika” Ennis took over the top spot. Ennis led the field for much of the race with heavy pressure from behind with two-time champion Scotty Duval right on his bumper. With laps winding down Ennis and Duval were still nose to tail, Morin Jr caught the top two and put his car in outside groove work past them. Just after clearing Ennis and coming to the starters stand to get the two to go, Morin Jr thought he saw starter Randy Christian waving the yellow flag and he lifted. Christian was simply holding the wrapped yellow flag while pointing down the track to a car slowing to go into the pits. By the time Morin Jr realized his mistake Ennis and Duval slipped back by on the inside. So Morin Jr. went back at it on the outside and got past both the top cars on the last lap for the win. Second through tenth were Ennis, Duval, Dean Wendell, Heath Toutelotte, Dan Murphy Jr., Cashman, Billy Clement Jr., Larry Fortin and Corrie Merritt.
2009 Roadrunner Champion Louie Maher got back to his winning ways in the twenty lap Roadrunner feature. Erik Miller, Jef James and Maher had a terrific three car battle for the lead until James cut a tire after contact with Miller while Maher grabbed the top spot. Maher held onto the lead through a few restarts for his first win of 2010. Also in the top ten were Miller, Jason Carroll, Johnny Reefer, Dan Fortin, Patrick D’Alba, Jen Lord, Lance Bathelemy, Matt Lombardi and James.
With his dominating win the first Outlaw Sportsman feature of the season, Bobby Allen showed he is a top contender for the Outlaw championship this season. Second through tenth were Geoff Rollins, John Meany, Tim Casey, John Bourdelais, Kevin Kephardt, Tony Kawessca, Ron Bolduc, Keith Walton, and Todd Warren.
Derek Griffith wrestled the lead from fellow flyweight Dylan Bilodeau at the midpoint of the Thunder Light feature and held on to win his second feature in a row. Second through fifth were Bilodeau, Chad Wendell, Carlos Esquivel, and Sammy Gilman.
Danny Gill won the Spectator Drags and Tom Lord won both the Spectator Race and Flagpole Race.
