Dragon Breaks In New Devil’s Bowl; Sets Sights On Thunder Road Return

MILTON, Vt. — Brent Dragon gave the new Devil’s Bowl Speedway rave reviews over the weekend and then set his sights on an old, familiar foe.

Dragon finished 4th in the first-ever Late Model race held on Devil’s Bowl’s brand new asphalt surface on Sunday afternoon during an off-weekend for the ACT Late Model Tour. Next up for Dragon is a return trip to Thunder Road International Speedbowl this weekend for the non-points Memorial Day Classic 100 on the tight quarter-mile.

Teams are in the midst of a stretch of three straight weekends off from ACT racing, giving them a chance to participate in other Late Model races. For Dragon, that meant going to Devil’s Bowl — which had been a dirt track prior to this season — for a 100-lap event last weekend.

“It was awesome,” said Dragon, who sits third in the ACT standings this season. “It was really fast — just a great place.”

Dragon started 14th in the field in the Beverage Mart/Furniture World of VT/Charlebois Freightliner/Newton Pellets No. 55 Chevrolet and moved up as high as 3rd in the running order just past the halfway mark. His tires soon wore out, however, relegating him to 4th in the race won by Dave Pembroke.

“It was showing nothing but the cords on both (right-side) tires,” Dragon said. “There wasn’t much we could do after that. We had to work so hard to get to the front.”

Dragon now heads to Thunder Road for the Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, a race he won in 2006. He finished 14th in the ACT Merchants Bank 150 at the track on May 2 but owns four career Thunder Road victories.
