Jerry Sehn Scratches 7 Year Itch
at Whip City Speedway
BY MARK McKEON
WESTFIELD, MA – Jerry Sehn raced Mini Sprints for seven years without a win until his decisive 1200cc victory at Whip City Speedway on Saturday. Sehn, who last visited victory lane in 1991 as Utica-Rome Speedway Pure Stock track champ, led every lap and withstood a restart on lap 14, to win by 10 car lengths over Charlie Pease.
“The competition here is so close and the drivers are so good, that I put it in my mind that I had to get a good start,” said a smiling Sehn, who makes a seven hour roundtrip tow to race at the Whip. “After I did, I just kept on trying to hit my marks. The car got a little upset once in turn 1, but I tried to keep my focus on running my line. I really didn’t want a caution, so when the yellow flag came out I said ‘oh, no’, but I was able to get a good restart. Just before the race, we made a last minute change to the wing and I think that was a big factor.” Continue reading “Jerry Sehn Scratches 7 Year Itch at Whip City Speedway” »
THREE DRIVERS RECORD FIRST CAREER FEATURE WINS AT CFS
(Shediac, N.B.) — Craig Ward of Riverview, Tim Layton of Hillsborough and Julie Leblanc of Haute Aboujagane will long remember this past weekend as they each picked up their first career feature wins during Sunday afternoon’s Buyer Flyer points championship stock car racing action at the Centre for Speed (CFS), Atlantic Canada’s Super Speedway and “Metro Moncton’s Playground of Power”.
“Ten long years I’ve been waiting for this, and it sure feels great,” are the first words that came from Craig Ward (#02) as he climbed out of his Ron Arsenault Engines Super Sportsman Monte-Carlo during an interview in victory lane. And Ward sure did it the hard way, battling side-by-side with Bert Cormier (#3) of Bouctouche for most of the 35-lap main event and then, he maintained his composure during two late race restarts to finally taste victory and cross the stripe ahead of Cal Hatfield (#11) of Rothesay and Luc Bourgeois (#88) of Memramcook. Cormier’s day did not end as well as he first lost traction as he was leading the event on lap #33, forcing him to the back
of the pack for the restart only to get caught up in another tussle, causing him to slam backwards in the backstretch wall.

LOUDON, N. H. – One of these days, people will stop doubting Jimmie Johnson.
The four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion can lose a race, or two, and folks automatically write him off as a contender.
Sunday, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Johnson played second fiddle, as he sometimes does, for most of the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 before putting a payback bump-and-run on Kurt Busch.
Busch had nudged Johnson aside with seven laps remaining with a bumper-tag finesse usually associated with ballet, but this high-speed dance was sheer poetry in motion. Johnson repaid the favor with just a few laps to go, providing high-end drama to a race that had only four caution flags. Continue reading “NSCS Race Recap: Johnson Victorious At New Hampshire” »

IZOD INDYCAR SERIES TO RETURN TO NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY
LOUDON, N.H. (Sunday, June 27, 2010) – The “Fastest Race in the World” will return to the Granite State in 2011 when the IZOD Indy Car Series returns to New Hampshire Motor Speedway officials announced today. The race will be held on July 30, 2011.
“We’re pleased to restore an Indy car short oval to the schedule to further increase our diversity of venues,” said Randy Bernard, chief executive officer of the Indy Racing League, sanctioning body of the IZOD IndyCar Series. “As evident last weekend in Iowa, our cars produce tremendous racing on short ovals. Additionally, New Hampshire Motor Speedway is strategically located in the Northeast, which fills a geographical gap in our schedule. I have to thank Bruton Smith and Jerry Gappens for giving us a great opportunity here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.”
