Hudson Race Report 7/11/10
Hudson NH – Don Soucy scored his first career feature win in the Roadrunner division on Sunday evening July 11th at Hudson International Speedway.
Soucy started ninth in the field and quickly made his way towards the front. Eric Miller led the opening laps of the race until a caution flew bunching the field for a restart with Miller on the pole and Soucy starting outside pole. Miller is still getting used to a new car and missed a shift when the green flag dropped and the field got by him with Soucy leading the way. From that point on Soucy had plenty of competition with Roadrunner aces Louie Maher and Nick Maniatis on his bumper but was able to hold off all challengers. Maher came home in the runnerup spot for the fourth time in a row. Maniatis crossed the line third. Patrick D’Alba finished fourth in his last race in his blue Honda. Jef James was fifth. Sixth through tenth were Miller, Johnny Reefer, Shawn Miller, Jesse Tellier and Jason Carroll.
Ron Lord Jr. led most of the first half of the Outlaw main before turning over the lead to Geoff Rollins after a restart. Rollins’s lead survived a few restarts with several different drivers taking turns in second place but none were able to mount a serious challenge to Rollins. Rollins picked up his first win of year and fourth podium finish in the four Outlaw races so far this year. Bobby Allen finished second but lost the points lead to Rollins and is now five points behind. John Meany started fourth and finished third. Keith Walton started third and pitted several times under caution to allow crew chief George Baldwin to adjust on his evil handling racecar and recovered to finish fourth in the nineteen car field. Rick Woodside Jr. finished fifth. Sixth through tenth were Shawn Waites, Scott McMicheal, Sandy Lee, Ron Bolduc and Lord Jr.
Chad Wendell won the Thunder Light main and Erica Page came home second. Making his first appearance at HIS since May, finishing third was Sammy Gilman. Phil “P3” Baril was fourth, Carlos Esquivel was fifth and John Daughenbaugh was sixth.
Jerry Lepage and John Cashman won the heats in the Rookie Stocks but the feature was postponed due to electrical difficulties.
Paul Ferriera won the Spectator Drags, Dan Angova won the Flagpole Race and Dave Heliwell won the Spectator Race.
Santa makes his summertime trek to HIS on July 18th for “Christmas in July” featuring the John Bourdelais Jr. Memorial for Classic Lites and Enduros plus V-6 Modifieds, Rookies, Roadrunners, Thunder Lights, Spectator Race, Flagpole Race, and Spectator Drags. Gates open at 4pm and the first green flies at 6pm. For more info please visit www.hudsonspeedway.info.
