OXFORD, Maine — Brent Dragon of Milton, Vt., finished fourth in the TD Bank Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway on Sunday, July 18. It marked Dragon’s best career Oxford 250 finish and continued a stretch that has now seen him post four consecutive top-10 finishes in the event. Dragon started 12th and worked his way up to third before making a four-tire pit stop on lap 140 with the rest of the leaders. He was running as high as second on a restart with 43 laps remaining but faded to fourth as his tires wore out.

BRENT, DID YOU THINK YOU HAD A SHOT AT THE OXFORD 250 WIN ON THAT FINAL RESTART WITH LESS THAN 50 LAPS REMAINING?

We went up through pretty good for about two or three laps, and then the tires got hot and that was the end of it. I figured we were a third-place car at that point.

DID YOU JUST NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIRE LEFT TO BATTLE EVENTUAL WINNER EDDIE MACDONALD?

I feel that was what a lot of it was. We had to battle a lot of lapped cars and there were so many cars down one lap, that they weren’t giving anybody any room. It was a hard race — it was one of the harder races (here) with all the cars laps down.

You know, they’re fighting for spots, too.

IN THE CLOSING LAPS, YOU LOOKED LIKE YOU HAD A PODIUM FINISH IN SIGHT.

It was a good run. I thought we might have a chance for third at the very end, but then the lapped cars seemed to get up into us and pushed us about off the track. That sort of took that away with like two (laps) to go.

Hanging on for fourth is pretty good. Coming out of here with that, that’s a good night.
