TOUR-TYPE MODS RETURN TO THOMPSON-BUD 150 ENTRIES NEAR 30.

THOMPSON, CT. The third of four Tour-Type Modified shoot out races will be held this Thursday, August 5th, at the Thompson International Speedway. These exciting, open competition style Modified races have been a big hit with Thompson fans and with this week’s event and another scheduled for Thursday, September 2nd, these 40-lap shoot outs could easily become a staple in annual race schedules.

Top Modified drivers have indicated that they love the short, 40-lap dash format. It means flat out racing from start to finish and, for many, it brings back what has been called the golden era of Modified racing in New England.

Ronnie Silk nipped Ted Christopher for the win back on June 24th and it was Mike Stefanik who bested Silk in July. These two drivers will be looking to claim victory again. However, an impressive field of top Tour-Type Modified racers will create an extremely competitive environment with each team looking to collect the winner’s prize money.

August 12th is a very special date at Thompson. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (WMT) will return for their annual August appearance in the Budweiser 150. With two weeks remaining before the event, nearly 30 race teams have filed entry blanks for the race and more are expected.

Bobby Santos, winner of the season-opening Icebreaker at Thompson, leads the NASCAR points chase on the Whelen Modified Tour. He is followed closely by Ted Christopher, Todd Szegedy, Mike Stefanik and Ryan Preece. All of these drivers have filed entry forms for the “Bud 150” at Thompson. Some of the other entrants are Ronnie Silk, Ed Flemke, Jr., Jimmy Blewett, Woody Pitkat and Chuck Hossfeld. These drivers along with the rest of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competitors will participate in an autograph session prior to the running of their 150-lap event.

With Modified racing slated for back to back appearances at Thompson, fans are getting geared up for two weeks of high speed fun and excitement. Tour-Type Modifieds and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour bring out the very best in Modified racing and Thompson. The high banks and long straight-aways showcase Modified race cars at their best.
