Mini Stock Point Leader Davis in Victory Lane
Mini Stock Point Leader Davis in Victory Lane
Winchester, NH Thanks for the memories as the 2nd annual Heroes of Yester-Year, Ford of Brattleboro open track party allowed fans and competitors from today and the past to mingle. Drivers gave out candy, and signed autographs, but most of all took time out to thank their fans of all ages. Some of us finally had our chance to meet our heroes from the past and talk about how racing has changed, and how some things will never change.
Young Guns (our future stars) showed how more seat time is making for stiffer competition. On lap nine Adam Manley went spinning through the infield and the #88 for Hilary Renuad and Cordel Colon got together. All were able to get back onto the track and this feature was run caution free. Joe Boivin would take down the win followed by Matt Parmenter and JT Cloutier.
Mini Sticks showed that as you come up through the ranks sometimes you just have to know when to say when. Joey Rogers would harness his VW to the pole position, but a caution on lap eleven when #14 of Tim Jackson would hit Rogers spinning him and taking out the #15 of Chris McTaggart and #13 of Joey Kendall. Jackson would be warned after going to the pits to have his bumper removed. Kendall and Rogers would also return, but McTaggart’s night would be done. On the restart of lap fourteen Jackson would again have contact with Rogers, this time Jackson would be shown the black flag and sent off the track. The battle for position would continue and when all was settled point leader Chris Davis would get his first win of the season, while Beth Adams would finish second and Joey Kendall battled his way back to take third position.
Super Stocks have treated fans all season to some of the tightest and toughest racing, and tonight was again exciting until the end. Lap eight saw the #68 of Stuart Wheelden smack the front stretch wall and pull off into the infield. On lap nine a caution waived for Nancy Muni spinning in turn four. Lap ten three wide racing left #11 of Nick Boivin spinning, #18 of Ken Springer off on the hook and damage to the #03 of Andy Brooks Jr. Brooks and the #33 of John Lavioe would be sent to the penalty box and have to start in the rear of the field for causing this wreck. Lap 22 would see #29 of Eddie Brehio III, who had been running second at the time, go flying through the grassy infield. Upon the restart he and the #7NH of Joe Bates would find themselves having to start at the rear. Nick Gravel would set down his second win of the season and Chris Curtis would take home second and point leader Bill Johnston was in for third.
The Allision Legacy Tour would be the guests of the fastest high-bank in the East. This 20 lap feature would be action packed with excitement. 4 caution periods would waive and when the checkered flag flew the #46 of Eric Burgois was in for the win, James Logan for second and Kyle Podiak in third place. Wow are these cars fast, was the comment by more than one fan.
Outlaw Pros would put together an event unto their own with Fran “Jr” Colson starting on the pole. The first start was waived off by flagmen Chan Stevens and the field would reset to try again. Caution would fly when the #66 of Mike Parks would back up into the turn 2 wall with help from the #95 of Ron Smith. Parks would go off to make some repairs and return. Riding the back stretch wall seems to be part of the new set up as the #15 of Brandon Ovitt did just that, and is still able to keep going. With five laps to go Ron Smith, followed by the #29 of Barry Gray would be a straight away ahead of Ovitt who is in third place. Ron Smith would take his Cadillac to victory lane for his second win in a row. Gray would finish second with Ovitt in for third.
Sportmen Modifieds, the newest division but the oldest class of competition, was next to take to the high-banks. Nick Boivin would take the early lead in his #1 car. Caution came out on lap thirteen when the #27 of Derek Bergquist spun for the second time. Trying hard to take the lead from Boivin, and watching his back bumper full of either Bill Kimball or Russ Hersey, Ricky Labreque spun bringing out the caution. Single file restart was signaled to the drivers and Boivin would hold off Hersey for his first win in the modified and in for third was Kimball. The points battle rages on between Hersey and Kimball.
Tour Type Modifieds were ready for a ground pounding 50 lap feature. A caution on lap one lost the # 88 of Jim Bonfiace, and the 27x of Matt Mead from contact between them and others in turn four. Sustaining heavy damage neither Boniface nor Mead would be able to continue. Lap eight would see Kirk Alexander take the lead and #24 of Todd Patnode follow. Patnode would make several attempts to get by Alexander, but was unable. A late caution came on lap 48 with contact between Mark McClay and Victor Johnson. McClay would be sent to the rear of the field for rough riding. Alexander came to victory lane first, followed by Patnode and Eric Leclair for third.
Full size enduros saw veterans putting on the show. The #95 of Joe Either and A7 of Barry Schonburg would battle for many laps swapping the lead but Schonburg’s tires seemed to go away and it would be Ethier for the win. He was followed by Duane Stonier for second and the #93 of Dan Stoodley for third
Four Cylinder Enduros were next with Julia Raymond leading in the points. The red flag on lap ten collected the #45, #4 and #84 in turn 4. The second red flag on lap 34 when the 62 and the 68x collect each other in turn 2. The 68x had to be pushed to the infield. The 62 would continue until lap 48 when he seemed to blow up. When the speedy-dry settled it was the #52 in for the win, followed by the #2 of Toby Wells and #55 of Scott Hatt.
Racing will resume this Saturday, Town Fair Tire night, featuring Pro 4 Modifieds, Outlaw Pros, Sportsman Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Young Guns and 4-cylinder Enduros. Race time is at 6pm. The speedway will also continue to offer the Two for $20 special adult general admission price. For more information log onto the speedway’s website at www.monadnockspeedway.com.,
