Saturday Night at Big Daddy’s Speedbowl

A beautiful New England afternoon and evening unfolded on Big Daddy’s
Speedbowl in Wentworth, NH for the second Saturday show of the season.
The track’s 5 regular, stock car divisions were tuned and ready to go
for exciting night of racing.

After the final track prep and the driver’s meeting, the qualifying
heats were run for each division. At intermission, while race cars
were being readied for the feature events, the kids got a chance to
try out the track.

The regular weekly Kid’s Club gathering was turned into an opportunity
for the Kids to have a race of their own out on the track. They
pushed their bikes through the pits and rode out onto the track.
Speedbowl promoter Mike Rivers served as the starter with regular
flagman Ray Moses handing the checkered flag. The first age group out
was the 5 and under for a dash the length of the main straight away
won by Shonna Moulton, 6, of Grafton, NH. Next up was a dash for the
6-8 year olds won by Samantha Jenness, 8, of Center Harbor, NH. The
final kid’s race was a full lap around the ¼ mile track by the 9-11
year olds which was won by Ashlynne Collins. 12, of Cannan, NH.

The Cutting Edge Graphix/Keyser Trucking Super Street race was the
first of the evening’s feature events. From his mid-pack starting
position, Mark Brown (47) of Rumney jumped out to an early lead.
While Mark motored away out front, points leader Derek O’Hearn (14) of
Campton made his way slowly through the field to challenge.
Plymouth’s Marc Jenot (88) and Derek had a lengthy battle for 2nd with
Derek making a pass on the last lap for the position. The final
finishing order was Mark Brown (47), Derek O’Hearn (14), and Mark
Jenot (88). Derek missed the victory circle trophy presentation as he
prepared his car to run in the upcoming Late Model division.

In the Mike’s Automotive Outlaw Late Model feature, Jamie Berzanson (
13 ½) of Concord, NH took a quick lead. Dan Collins (4) of W. Canaan
charged after Jamie, but struggled getting through turns 1 and 2.
Later in victory circle, Dan said, “I got a little throttle happy, I
guess”. Mike McClay (82) of Holderness rounded out the field in 3rd.

The mighty Mid-State Trucking Modifieds took the track with Lebanon’s
Trevor Rocke (63) jumping to the lead from his outside pole starting
position. Trevor stretched his lead while Chad Turck (56g) of
Pittsfield and points leader Ryan Avery (01) of Thornton battled each
other for 2nd. A late caution bunched the field, but Trevor held on
for the win with Chad 2nd and Ryan 3rd. After qualifying his car,
regular Modified driver Ed Tobin (78) stepped out and generously
offered the wheel to Christine Boesch of Center Harbor for the
feature. An experienced racer, Christine drove a high line as she
adjusted to the powerful Modified. We expect to see Ed back in the 78
next week, but you never know.

Matt Morrill (9) of Center Harbor dominated the OE Parts Direct
Mini-Stock feature. Matt came quickly to the front in his super fast
VW, built a substantial lead, and was unchallenged. Campton’s VP
Vaillancourt (14x) and Penacook’s Dana Whiting (04) dueled for 2nd
with a late lap slip by Dan giving 2nd to Vaillancourt.

The Camaro Heaven Bandit division had a first time feature winner this
week. The early laps were headed by VP Vaillancourt (14x) with Dana
Whiting (04) of Peanacook, NH taking over with 10 laps to go.
Vaillancourt survived a challenge by Scott Blake (21) for 2nd with
Scott taking 3rd. What a great night for Dana , a Big Daddy’s
regular, with his first ever feature win and also a 3rd place in the
Mini Stock with his Mustang.
