Kendall Conquers Mini Stock Conquest
Kendall Conquers Mini Stock Conquest
Winchester, NH: It may have been overcast and cloudy, but that could not put a damper on the action packed night at the high banks of our speedway. Fans, as always, were treated to the best of the best from all divisions in competition.
While walking in the pit area you could sense some pre-race jitters coming from Young Star Adam Manley, who tonight would make the step up to run with the mini stocks during their 35 lap Mini Conquest. But having a good crew and lots of support behind you can make you more comfortable and Manley was looking to get set and earn the other competitors respect. Also, a more than welcomed suprise, was seeing the #62 of Roger Raymond with his well known Ford powered modified here to compete. Raymond has always been know as the gentlemen in any of the racing ventures he has competed in, and a hero to fans and racers. His wins and championships are endless and at his mature age all believe that racing is in his blood. Raymond would be lined up to start in heat three of the modified qualifiers.
As division qualifying began with the mini stocks, super stocks and the , it was when Raymond’s all too familiar orange #62 took to the track that fans were clapping and cheering.
The Young Guns feature hit the track, but would start one short as Cordell Colon, who was set to start on the pole, was unable to compete. Joe Boivin would take down his 6th win of the season followed by Hillary Renaud for second and JT Cloutier in the podium for third. The staff and racers should be very proud to take on such an interesting new series and see that competitors are already stepping up and the consistent improvements with these young drivers. Next year as rumor has it more competitors are heading this way.
The Mini Stock Conquest was next with 35 laps of door to door excitement. The question was who would go the distance and how would the points chase stand when these drivers finished. Stand out competitor Tim Jackson, with many victories under his belt, was a no show for the second week in a row, but we would see the “raffle car” of Fred Rogers in its first night of racing. Rogers tells that he won this car in a raffle that he spent $5.00 for a ticket. A lap eleven caution waived as the #4 of Josh Heino seemed to just shut off on the back stretch. At the restart the #3 of Joe Rogers was being challenged by #99 of Kim Rivet, with the #15 of McTaggart pressing hard for position. A three car battle rages on behind the leaders when Rivet gets shuffled back and has to deal with #87 of Beth Adams, #16 of Chris Davis, as well as hard charging #13 for Joey Kendall. On lap fifteen Davis gets the top spot away from Rogers. At the half way point it’s Rogers who takes the top spot back followed by McTaggart, then Davis and Kendall. On lap twenty nine when Rogers wiggles, Kendall gets the lead and would take the checkered flag followed by Rogers for second, Mctaggart for third, Rivet for fourth and Davis in fifth. During track side interviews McTaggart would dedicate his run to his grandfather, the late Wally Lyons, who recently passed away.
Super Streets were set to rock their 25 lap feature. The #71 of Dave Streibel was out to an early lead. Streibel, who raced for many years on dirt tracks, has been a regular series racer in this division and many thought maybe it was his turn. He would contend with #11 of Nick Boivin and hard challenges from the #29 of Eddie Brehio III and #03 of Andy Brooks Jr. Lap sixteen saw the true meaning of rubbing is racing when #33 of John Lavoie and #37 of point’s leader Bill Johnston got together sending Johnston through the infield and fans saying “nice save”. By lap #22 Boivin was stretching out his lead with #54 of Nick Gravel in second and Streibel in third, which is how they would come across the finish line, followed by #29 of Brehio and then #03 of Brooks.
Tour type Modifieds were next on grid for 50 laps. On lap three #96 of Butch Perry slows on the track and seems to have engine issues. A lap nine caution came when the #87 of Kevin Ianarelli slides up turn one into the tire barrier sustaining damage that would end his night. At the restart #84 of Brandy Tree, #5J of Victor Johnson, #6 of Eric LeClair, #88 of Jim Boniface and #24 Todd Patnode were your top five cars. On lap ten Johnson was in the lead feeling heat from Boniface. A lap eighteen caution flies when #20 Rusty Ball goes around. Fans were looking through the field to see that Raymond in his #62 hasn’t missed a beat and was now in 9th place. Johnson would restart in the first spot followed by Boniface and Patnode. On lap thirty Kirk Alexander’s #43 takes the top spot from Johnson followed by Patnode and Boniface. By lap 37 the drivers were still mixing it up with Alexander, Boniface, Patnode, Johnson, #71ME of Josh Cantara, #4 of Wayne Helliwell and #62 Roger Raymond your top seven. A lap 40 spin for #20 of Ball resets the field with another double file restart. On lap 41 the #5J of Johnson gets sideways and into the #62 of Raymond. Raymond seemed to have no damage but has to go to the rear of the field as Johnson was off into the pits with a quick return. The top spot would be won by Alexander, Patnode would get second and Boniface took third.
The 50 Lap Enduro race was smoke filled from spin outs and tire burn outs. The #93 of Dan Stoodley would start on the pole, but with heavy damage to the nose as a result of contact in a group on the front stretch would soon lose his lead. On the last lap crashing and banging through the field saw #9 take the win, #95 Joe Either in second and #16 Duane Stonier in for third. The #93 of Stoodley would have tow truck assistance off the track. The win was awarded to Joe Ethier after a penalty of two position deduction was given to Yagmin for rough riding.
