Sportsman Modifieds Championship Battle Continues
Sportsman Modifieds Championship Battle Continues
Winchester, NH: As the racing season for 2010 winds down, competitors and fans are being treated to some of the best action packed racing the high banks has to offer. Old friends and new faces are emerging on the track. Super Stocks saw the return of Ed Lofland in the #45 Super Stock , Sportman Modifieds saw two new faces in #13 of Josh White and #76 of John Hanafin. The Outlaw Pros welcomed #2 of Wally Wright for his first time in competition, who is a regular Mud Bog competitor. The North Division of Allison Legacy Tour was on hand showing a large car count and exciting racing.
Young Guns would see JT Cloutier start from the pole and head out to another victory in their 15 lap Feature. The battle would rage between #88 of Hillary Renaud and #11 of Joe Boivin as they ran side by side. Boivin would try the outside and Renaud held her line and it was not until the last lap that Boivin would snatch the second spot away in turn three to hold the position. Renuad crossed the stripe for third, which she has done many times in this first season. Renaud, in her post race interveiw, said she has her sights set for a win.
Mini Stocks continued to prove their might, as they took to the track for their 25 laps of excitement. The #71 Eric Pomasko would start on the pole and lead the field to the green. But the first green was waived off and the lineup was reset to try it again. A lap three caution flag flew for debris in turn 1. On lap 21 a caution waved when #15 of Chris McTaggart slides and collects #87 of Beth Adams and #99 of Kim Rivet in front of the grandstands. McTaggart seem to have damage to right rear wheel, but was allowed to continue after a look by track officials. On the restart it’s the #45 of Eric Dejackome in the lead followed by #16 of Chris Davis, and the #13 of Joey Kendall. Maybe this would be Dejackome’s first ever victory is what many spectators were thinking. The #17 of Rob Thompson would spin his Pinto, backing it up into the wall on the rear straight away, at the same time the #71 of Pomasko would tangle with #3 of Joey Rogers spinning in turn two. Down to the wire Dejackome seizes his first win, followed in second place by Joey Kendall, and third went to point’s leader Chris Davis.
Super Stocks were next for their 25 lap feature event. These racers are showing that as the season moves less cautions appear but that does not change how hard they race. The #43 of Dana Shephard led the cars to green, but a shuffle and bump or two got him moved from the top spot soon. That turned out to be the break Eddie Brehio III needed to open the door wide and then hang it out. As the others tried to catch Brehio the true challenges were for 6th, 7th and 8th places between #44 of Brian Chapin, #11 of Nick Boivin, #37 Bill Johnston and #45 of Ed Lofland. As the laps wound down and the checkered fell, Brehio took the win, with #18C of Chris Curtis for second and #54 Nick Gravel in third. John Lavoie finished 4th and Joe Bates in the 5th position. This division ran caution free for the second week in a row.
Allison Legacy set up to do 25 laps for their feature event with some heavy hitters were ready to wind it up and turn it loose. The #44 James Logan would start on the pole. He has been a competitor here at Monadnock many times, but has always come up short. Kyle Poodiak was on outside pole, a local racer with lots of relatives and many turns on this track. Poodiak would get out to an early lead, as Logan seemed to miss and get shuffled back. On lap five Logan passes Poodiak to regain the lead. A lap ten caution waved for a spin by #7 of 12 year old Brad Zahensky. Caution on laps twelve and nineteen as the #26 of Sean Murphy spins both times trying to keep it going straight. A caution on the last lap for a spin of #99 Billy Barrett would put the finish to a green, white, checkered. Logan would take the monkey off his back and win followed by Poodiak in second and Nate Johnson for third. Logan takes his victory and celebrates his 21st birthday.
Outlaw Pro’s were set to drive for 30 laps with #37 Fran Jr Colson on the pole. Colson would hold the lead until on lap eight when the #15 of Brandon Ovitt would get to the inside and make it stick, bringing Barry Gray with him. Ovitt would feel Gray breathing heavy on his back with the #66 of Mike Parks closing in on them both from third. On lap eight a caution flew when the loose #57 of Steve Gauthier gets into #96 Matt Zenisky spinning both cars on the front stretch. Lap twenty-one a caution waves for a spin into the infield by Colson, just as it looks that Gray is going to get by Ovitt. Coming to the checkered Ovitt and Gray get together coming out of turn four sending both spinning, through the cloud of tire smoke Parks get the victory followed by Geoff Rollins and Steve Gauthier for second and third.
Sportsman Modifieds were next with #15 of Scott Nelson in the pole spot. The #52 of Ricky Labrecque cames out and completed hot laps, but pulls off prior to green and is unable to answer the call rejoin the field. A lap three caution when the #20 of Rich Fournier and #27 of Derek Bergquist have contact sending Bergquist into the front stretch wall and ending his night. On Lap three #0 of Jeff Wright gets the lead as the #1 of Nick Boivin and #43 of Bill Kimball battle for second place. On lap seventeen Kimball takes the top spot away and is pursued by the #88 of Russ Hersey. Hersey tried the top, the bottom, and in the middle, but it would be Kimball with the win, then Hersey second and Jeff Wright for third place. Kimball and Hersey would come into tonight’s race tied for the lead in points and Kimball would leave two up on Hersey.
4 Cylinder Enduro’s would finish the night for 50 laps of sliding, rubbing, scraping and banging. There was a red flag on lap three when the #129 of Fred Rogers stalled after contact with others on the apron. In lap eight the #39 of Bruce Clark and #30 of Matthew Somerville slide together but both made nice saves to keep them rolling forward. On lap twenty #57X of Pat Houle heads to the pits in a cloud of smoke, and on lap twenty we see #62 of Dick Houle slow on the track and coast into the infield. Lap thirty-nine the #177 is shown the black flag for a fire in the right front brakes. When the checkered waived Heath Renaud took the win followed by the #68x of Matt Gauffin and #2 of Toby Wells.
