Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl Race Report

Brent Dragon of Milton, Vt., finished 23rd in the ACT Late Model Tour Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, September 5. Dragon was running inside the Top-5 just past the halfway mark of the event when he was caught in the wake of an accident involving lapped traffic. He pitted to make repairs, returned to the race but retired a few laps later due to the damage his No. 55 Chevrolet incurred.

BRENT, WHAT HAPPENED ON LAP 102?

Just a restart. We were up to fourth after pitting to put tires on, and a couple of lapped cars got together right in front of the pack and we ended up in the mess with nowhere to go. It happens. It’s short track racing here at Thunder Road. We’ll get it back together for next week.

HOW EXTENSIVE WAS THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR?

There were a lot of bent pieces and stuff that needs to be gone through (at the shop). It wasn’t as good after (the wreck). So, we’ll get her back together this week and go to Airborne.

IT APPEARED UP UNTIL THAT POINT YOU HAD PLAYED THE PIT STRATEGY PERFECT. YOU WERE THE FIRST CAR IN THE RUNNING ORDER THAT HAD MADE A STOP FOR FRESH TIRES AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT.

I figured they were going to eventually pit, and the newness of the tires didn’t last all that long. I thought maybe if we got back to the front, if it goes a long (green flag run), we might have a pretty good shot and they wouldn’t be able to get back up to us.

It looks like that was what was going to happen… We might have been in pretty good shape.
