seekonkAs the winter doldrums shake off, the staff and management are gearing up to open the gates for the 2012 season for the first time on Saturday, April 7th.

The first event of the day will be the first ever Seekonk Speedway Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt is open for all kids under 12. The gates swing open at 8:30, with the hunt beginning at 9am, and ending at 10.

The first practice of the season for Seekonk competitors and others will follow. The gates for the competitors opens at 9am, with rookies hitting the track first at 11am. Competitors from Seekonk, various touring divisions and other tracks in the region are all welcome to take their turn on the 1/3 mile oval, to get ready for their season. With the Nick’s Pit Stop Legend Series coming aboard for 2012, this is a perfect opportunity to get some laps on a track many will be unfamiliar with. MARTINSVILLE, Va. — In the wake of a controversial late-race caution, Ryan Newman spoiled an afternoon of Hendrick hegemony with an opportunistic victory in the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.

After Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson dominated the action for 497 laps, an untimely caution flag flew on Lap 497 and sent the race to overtime, after David Reutimann stalled on the frontstretch.

Gordon and Johnson stayed out on old tires as the lead-lap cars behind them came to the pits for tires and fuel. On the restart on lap 504, Clint Bowyer took Johnson and Gordon three-wide into the first corner, and all three cars spun, ruining a potential 200th victory party for Hendrick Motorsports.

ThompsonTHOMPSON, CT. Snow, rain and a dismal forecast forced Thompson International Speedway management to postpone today’s open practice session for 24 hours. Paddock area gates will open at 10 AM and on-track activity will get underway at 12 Noon on Sunday, April 1st.

Any safe race car will be allowed to participate in the season’s first practice session which will be run in a “Round Robin” type format divided by race division. A second practice session is scheduled Saturday, April 7th. The paddock area will open at 10 AM with practice starting at 11 AM.

ThompsonTHOMPSON, CT. Thompson Speedway management has once again teamed with many different companies to offer cash bonuses for competitors in each of the track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. This program, which was a big hit with Thompson race teams last year, has been renewed and improved by the Thompson Marketing Team and will begin with the season-opening Icebreaker the weekend of April 14th and 15th .

More than $13,000.00 in bonus money will be distributed this season to Thompson competitors in various ways depending on the wishes of the individual sponsoring companies. “In the first year of this program, we were able to provide over $10,000.00 in bonus money to our competitors. This year, thanks to the enthusiastic support of so many different companies, we were able to increase that amount in this very popular program,” said Marketing Director, Jonathan Hoenig. The bonus money contingency program will be paid over and above the track’s posted purse structure.

Speedway 95Speedway 95 held it’s annual Spring pre-season car show at the Bangor Mall March 23, 24, and 25, with over 30 cars, drivers and crews displaying their 2012 racing machines. During the three day show, contests were held for the People’s Choice Award in each racing division represented, voted on by shoppers at the mall, as well as a contest for the Best Dressed Crew and a Best of Show award that took into consideration the overall appearance of the car, both interior and exterior, the appearance of the crew representing the car, and the display area the car was set up in. Independent judges from the local media, the mall staff and track personnel made up the panel for the awards. Trophies and cash prizes were handed out by track owner Del Merritt on Sunday afternoon to the winning teams. The winners were:
