Is it possible time has stood still in the lush, green hills of northwest Connecticut since Memorial Day 2010? That was when the SunTrust Racing driving duo of Max Angelelli and Ricky Taylor previously visited Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., and scored their first GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series victory of the season in dominating fashion by leading three times for a race-high 95 of 174 laps.
Monday, it was déjà vu all over again, in the words of the immortal Yogi Berra, as Angelelli and Taylor made it look easy, once again, in scoring their second consecutive Memorial Day Classic victory at Lime Rock in even more convincing fashion, starting from the pole and leading three times for 153 of 183 race laps.

Memorial Day Weekend Classic Preview

Defending Race-Winners Look To Repeat at Lime Rock’s Memorial Day Classic

LAKEVILLE, Conn. (May 25, 2011) – It was all in a day’s work when Max Angelelli and Ricky Taylor drove their No. 10 SunTrust Chevrolet Dallara of Wayne Taylor Racing to a dominating victory in the inaugural Memorial Day Classic for GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototypes at scenic Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., last May.
They first hit the track for practice at 9:30 a.m. and, by 4:50 p.m., the veteran Angelelli had recorded his 15th career Rolex Series win with his co-driver, then-20-year-old Taylor, earning his first win in 25 Rolex Series starts. They combined to lead a race-high 95 of 174 laps, taking advantage of brilliant strategy and lightning-fast pit work by the SunTrust team in ending the three-race win streak of the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates duo of Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas, who were essentially out of contention on the very first turn of the very first lap after being shoved off-course and heavily damaging the front of their racecar. “This weekend’s Grand-Am Road Racing Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park will present new and interesting challenges for our Chevy Camaro teams in both the Rolex Sports Car Series GT and the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS.
“In GT, we have a new weight requirement for our Camaro GT.R race cars. Our three teams are very confident that they will easily adapt to the added weight and they will continue to be extremely competitive. Continue reading “GRAND-AM AT LIME ROCK PARK: Team Chevy — Memorial Day Classic” »
Pit Strategy Goes Awry For Fadden Racing’s Jonathan Smith At LRP
Lakeville, Conn. (July 5, 2010): A mid-race pit strategy foiled a top-10 run for Fadden Racing’s Jonathan Smith in the NASCAR K&N 100 at Lime Rock Park Saturday afternoon, and relegated the No. 61 BaBoom! Energy Spray/Riondo Wine/Athlete’s of America Chevrolet to a 13th place finish after a solid performance race long.
“We were hoping to do a fuel mileage race and not pit, but it didn’t turn out like we thought. There were a lot of green flag laps. We came in to pit and right after that there was a six or seven lap caution period.”
Smith proved he was going to be a force to reckon with from the onset of the weekend. He was fast in practice and backed it up with a qualifying effort of 94.947 mph to earn a 12th place position on the starting grid.
