MIKE HOPKINS TAKES POINTS TITLE BY ONE POINT

Wayne Parritt of Steuben took the lead in the Dysart’s Late Model feature from Winterport’s Ryan Deane on lap 27 at Speedway 95 Saturday night and went on to win the 35 lap feature, posting his second win in four weeks. Deane Smart of Bradley was close behind, challenging Parritt for the position, but unable to complete a pass and settling for second in the season finale. Meanwhile, Ellsworth’s Andy Saunders was working his way up from the 12th starting position to finish third, and also became a factor in the divisions’ point’s race. Ryan Deane and Mike Hopkins of Hermon started the night only one point apart in the standings. Deane had finished second in the first qualifier, putting him seven points ahead. Then Hopkins won his qualifier, gaining 10 points, retaking the lead by a 3 point margin. In the feature, Deane led the first 27 laps of the event, but Hopkins was mired in fifth, with a right front tire that was slowly losing air. Unable to make any progress, Hopkins was helpless to do anything but ride, letting lady luck determine his fate. That luck came in the form of Saunders who crossed the finish line in third by a nose over Deane, relegating Deane to a fourth place finish. With 2 points difference in each position, when Hopkins finished in fifth, his points lead for the season and the championship was down to one. Fortunately for Hopkins, the top five had separated themselves from the remainder of the field by enough of a margin so no one else could pass Hopkins, who continued to slow as his tire leaked. After crossing the finish line, Hopkins went to the pit showering sparks as his suspension scraped the track due to the now flat tire. A quick tire change by his crew brought Hopkins back out to do the now popular “burnout” to celebrate his championship. The remainder of the night’s finishing order in the Dysart’s Late Models was 6. Don Alexander Jr., Carmel, 7. Duane Seekins, Stockton Springs, 8. John Kalel II, Orrington, 9. Donny Blanchard, Sangerville, 10. George Dunn, Eastbrook, 11. Alex Waltz, Damariscotta, 12. Bob Seger Jr. Framkfort, 13. Lloyd Nickerson, Corinth. 14. Dale Swoboda, Hermon, 15. Shane Clark, Winterport.

Steve Moulton of Holden put an exclamation point on his season championship in the division as he cruised to victory in the night’s feature after taking the lead on lap 17, when early leader Gene Wasson of Greenbush and D.J. Moody of Prospect tangled while racing for the lead. Wasson led the first 17 laps, but as Moody attempted to pass on the inside, the two collided, bringing out the race’s only caution. On the restart, Moulton grabbed the lead and drove off to victory. Derek Mingo of Lamoine also got by Moody on the restart to finish second, with Moody coming home third. Deane Smart of Bradley finished fourth with Kris Watson of Hermon rounding out the top five. Pole sitter Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs finished sixth, followed by Mike Overlock of Franklin, Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort, Gene Wasson of Greenbush and Jason Levesque of Limestone.

In the Strictly Streets, Shelby Kimball of Cornville posted the third victory of her rookie season in the division, once again holding off points champion Andrew McLaughin of Harrington for the win. In all three of her wins, Kimball has had to keep 10 time winner McLaughlin at bay, as he was always right on her bumper, trying to rattle her to make a mistake. Kimball once again maintained her composure and drove to the win. McLaughlin finished second in the feature, but took the points title for the season by a substantial margin over Kimball. Third in the night’s race was Ren Dore of Addison, who came back from a horrific crash last week with a different car and ran his best race of the season. Fourth went to Cherryfield’s Ryan Beale, and Cody Brassbridge, who was involved with Dore’s crash last week finished fifth. Chuck Hall of Cherryfield slid behind the wheel of the car normally driven by Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton and finished a strong sixth. Al Libby of Belfast was seventh, followed by 72 year old Ken Bowness of Glenburn in eighth. Ninth went to Shawn Hamel Ii of Bangor with Wayne Parritt Jr. of Steuben in tenth. Mike Shaw of Troy finished 11th and Shawn Racilla of Dover-Foxcroft was 12th.

Donny Silva of Hudson started on the pole in the Sport-Four feature and ran off and hid from the field in the caution free 20 lap event, winning by almost a half lap. Bradley Norris of Ellsworth took the runner up spot in the race, and won the season’s points title over Steve Heath of Milo, who finished the race in third. Gerry Phillips of Hermon finished fourth with Becky Elston of Carmel in fifth. The remainder of the field was 6. Mike Heath, Brownville, 7. Keith Ogden, Dedham, 8. Fred Ashmore, Ellsworth. 9. Bradley Dolan, Winterport, 10. Brock Worster, Kingman, 11. James Johnson II, Bucksport, 12, Phil Richardson, Hermon 13. Matt Shaw, Burnham.

In the Bomber finale, 13 year old Emma Libby of Glenburn made it four in a row and five for the season as she passed Carmel’s Ted Ryder on a mid-race restart and held him off for the win. Ryder finished in second, followed by 2011 Little Enduro champion Darren Durrell of Newburgh in third. Fourth went to Hermon’s Ryan Modery, who captured the points title in the Bomber division for the season. Daymon Dodge of Troy finished the race in fifth. Kevin Seekins of Frankfort was sixth, followed by Matt Kimball of Cornville, who was the season champion in the Wednesday night Stars of Tomorrow division for 2011 in seventh. Kayla Allen of Bucksport finished eighth, with Durbon Davis of Bangor ninth and Andrew Allen of Hermon rounding out the top ten. Amy Houde of Howland finished 11th, Mark Lane of Newport was 12th, 13th went to Andrew Crosby of Hermon and Darrel Ogden of Old Town was 14th.

SWOBODA TAKES CRASH MARRED 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

Hermon’s Dale Swoboda started on the front row of the 35 lap Dysart’s Late Model Feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night, but what happened in between made it far from an easy run for him. Swoboda and Ryan Deane of Winterport battled side by side in the early laps, swapping the lead several times before Deane took the point. A caution on lap 4 bunched the field back up when George Dunn of Eastbrook side-slapped Winterport’s Shane Clark, sending him to the infield. Clark recovered, but restarted at the rear of the 15 car field. Another yellow fell on lap 9, when John Kalel II stopped the race for a flat tire. On the restart, it was Swoboda and Deane again until lap 19, when points leader Mike Hopkins brought out the caution as he slowed due to a flat right front tire. A quick trip to the pit and Hopkins was back out, but at the back of the field. Four more yellows for minor incidents kept the field close, but Wayne Parritt of Steuben had worked his way up past Swoboda and was battling Deane for the lead on lap 32. Hopkins had also returned to the front of the field, riding in fourth when Parritt and Deane started bumping and spinning each other as they raced for the lead with 3 to go. Swoboda somehow got by, but Hopkins ended up on his roof on the back stretch after hitting the back stretch retaining wall trying to avoid what Parritt and Deane were doing in front of him . Hopkins climbed out of his wrecked car, and was out for the night. The red flag that stopped the field on lap 32 for that incident set up a 3 lap dash for the checkers with Swoboda at the head of the field. Swoboda led the pack under the green, with Duane Seekins beside him. As the cars got back up to speed, Seekins tucked in behind Swoboda, and Shane Clark made a mad dash for the front on the outside, passing Seekins on the final lap, finishing in second just behind Swoboda when he drove under the checkers for his third win of the season. Seekins finished third, with Deane Smart of Bradley in fourth. Donny Blanchard of Bangor posted a fifth place finish. Hopkins and Deane won the evening’s Late Model qualifiers.

Steve Moulton of Holden started the Sportsman feature on the pole and ran away and hid from the field until the checkered flag fell for him 25 laps later. What he missed by being way out front was a great side by side duel for second and third by Deane Smart of Bradley and D.J. Moody of Prospect. After swapping the lead many times during the race, Smart was in second when the race ended and Moody was a very close third. Fourth went to Gene Wasson of Greenbush with Mike Overlock of Franklin finishing fifth. Moulton also won the division’s 10 lap qualifier.

In Strictly Street action, what had to be the most spectacular roll over in a long time happened on lap 3, right in front of the flag stand, when Ren Dore of Addison got sideways and was hit by Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort. When Brassbridge made contact with Dore, Dore’s car flipped over, and Brassbrigde and his car rode up over the rolling Dore car and ended up in the front stretch wall. Both drivers escaped from their wrecked cars without visible injuries, but were eliminated from the race for the night. Shelby Kimball of Cornville was also involved, but was able to resume racing, only to fall out later due to mechanical issues related to the hit she took in the earlier incident. When the race resumed following a lengthy clean up period, Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington worked his way through the pack and took the lead on lap 13 of the 25 lap race and held it to the end. Early leader Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton finished second, followed by Ryan Beale of Cherryfield, who posted his first top three of the season. Shawn Hamel II of Bangor was fourth, followed by Al Libby of Belfast in fifth. McLaughlin also won the qualifier.

In the Sport-Fours, Steve Heath of Milo won his sixth feature of the season when he passed race long leader Becky Elston of Carmel coming out of turn four on the last lap, after the pair raced side by side for the last six laps of the event. Elston finished second with Keith Ogden of Dedham in third. Fourth went to 2011 Ladies Division champion Chelsea Young of Winterport in her first attempt this season to run with the Saturday night cars. Point leader Bradley Norris of Ellsworth finished fifth. Elston won the divisions qualifying race.

Emma Libby of Glenburn took the lead on lap six of the 20 lap Bomber feature and then outran Carmel’s Ted Ryder over the final five laps of the feature to post her third Bomber division feature win in a row. Ryder, a regular Wednesday night Little Enduro driver, finished in second with 2011 Little Enduro champion Darren Durrell of Newburgh in third. Ryan Modery of Hermon finished fourth after leading the early laps of the race, and Jeremy Scott of Carmel, another Wednesday night regular, was fifth. Modery had won the earlier qualifying event. The win was Libby’s fifth in the last two weeks, as she had also won the final two Stars of Tomorrow features in Wednesday night action.

The season finale for the regular Speedway 95 season will start at 7:00 on Saturday, September 10. Information about the annual awards banquet, to be held on Saturday November 5, will be posted on the speedway’s website, www.speedway95racing.com within a few days.

SAUNDERS AND WESTON TAKE CLOSE WINS IN 95 ACTION
Corrected

Andy Saunders of Ellsworth and Nate Weston of Norridgewock both posted closely contested wins in racing action at Speedway 95 Saturday night. The margin of victory was about a half car length in both features, as sticky track conditions made the racing action tight all night.

In the Late Models, Saunders and eight time winner Mike Hopkins of Hermon started on the front row, and they were the show throughout the 35 lap feature event. At the start, the pair raced side by side, swapping the lead for the first 6 laps until Hopkins got the advantage and slowly pulled away from Saunders and the rest of the field. A caution on lap 26, caused by Wayne Parritt of Steuben losing the steering on his car and tapping Hermon’s Dale Swoboda, causing Swoboda to spin. On the restart, Saunders and Hopkins again lined up side by side and again began swapping the lead until the caution flew on lap 31 for a solo spin by Brenton Parritt. Again, Saunders and Hopkins were on the front row for the restart, and ran the final 4 laps side by side, with Saunders ahead by a nose when the checkered flag flew. Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs used the inside groove to work his way past Winterport’s Ryan Deane to take third, with Deane finishing fourth. Deane Smart of Bradley finished fifth. Smart and Hopkins won the evening’s qualifiers.

Nate Weston of Norridgewock won his first 95 feature of the season in only his second appearance at the track. A former Unity Super Street, Weston came to 95 last week after his division there was disbanded. In his first appearance here he posted a third place finish, and this week he won a hard fought battle with 5 time winner Jeremy Glasier of Appleton to post the win. Weston and Glasier started on the front row and ran side by side or nose to tail for the entire distance, with Weston crossing the finish line first with Glasier’s bumper at his door. Deane Smart of Bradley finished right behind the leaders in third, after Steve Moulton of Holden headed to the pits at the three quarter mark with overheating problems. D.J. Moody of Prospect was fourth with Mike Overlock of Franklin rounding out the top five. Steve Moulton won the heat race earlier in the evening.

In Sport four action, Steve Heath on Milo won his fourth feature of the season, fighting off a challenge from Matt Shaw of Burnham who was later disqualified in post race inspection for having a track with of 3 inches more than allowed in the rules. Keith Ogden of Dedham took the second place trophy home, followed by points leader Bradley Norris of Ellsworth who survived two accidents in the 20 lap event in third. Early on, Norris and Gerry Phllips of Hermon slid off the front stretch and had to be towed back onto the asphalt. In a later mishap, James Johnson II of Bucksport spun in turn four, hitting Norris and Becky Elston, forcing both to the pit for repair. Norris was able to return to the race, but Elston was sidelined for the night. Mike Heath of Brownville finished fourth, followed by Roy Crawford of Houlton in his first appearance of the season at the track.

Bob Seger Jr. of Frankfort was disqualified during post race inspection following the Strictly Street feature for several violations of the motor rules, moving points leader Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington to the top spot in the finishing order. Shelby Kimball of Cornville moved to second, followed by Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort in third. Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton ffinished fourth and Shawn Hamel II of Bangor was fifth. Communications issues between the tech garage and officials in the tower resulted in the incorrect report of the disqualification in the initial press release. Kimball won the qualifier for the Strictly Streets.

Emma Libby continued her “hot streak” in racing at Speedway 95 as she posted her third straight win in a week. The 13 year old from Glenburn won the Bomber feature last week, the Stars of Tomorrow feature in Wacky Wednesday action and continued her streak with a Bomber Division win Saturday night. Libby took the lead early in the event and held off Scott Bonney of Bangor who finished second and the Hermon Hotfoot, Andrew Crosby, who finished in third. Bradley Dolan of Winterport finished fourth followed by Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort in fifth. Libby also won the Bomber qualifier.

Saturday night racing in September will include a regular show on September 3, and the season finale on September 10. The first green flag will fly on both days at 7:00 p.m.

DALE SWOBODA WINS SPEEDWAY 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

Dale Swoboda of Hermon won the crash marred Late Model feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night that lost several competitors before the half way point. Swoboda started on the pole and stayed ahead of the carnage, most of which occurred on lap 11. Shane Clark of Winterport spun off turn one with a little help from Brenton Parritt of Steuben. On the resulting restart, a major accident on turn 2 sent several competitors to the pit, never to return to the race. Swoboda continued in the lead, finishing about 10 car lengths ahead of Winterport’s Ryan Deane. Deane couldn’t worry too much about catching Swoboda as he had a red hot Deane Smart of Bradley, who finished third, glued to his bumper for most of the race following the lap 11 restart. Brenton Parritt finished fourth, with Shane Clark riding his bumper to a fifth place finish after recovering from his earlier spin. Last week’s winner, Mike Hopkins, finished sixth without a right fender and door following the lap 11 mess. Duane Seekins, also a victim of the “big one” finished 7th, followed by George Dunn of Eastbrook in 8th. 9th place went to Alex Waltz of Damariscotta, followed by John Kalel II of Orrington, Andy Saunders of Ellsworth, Greg Ellis of Hermon and Nick Jenkins of Brownville who all were eliminated on lap 11. Hopkins and Ryan Deane won the night’s qualifiers, but started near the back of the pack due to their top three finishes last week.

Prior to placing third in the Late Model feature, Deane Smart of Bradley won the Sportsman feature as he continues to sub for the injured Doug Sinclair. Smart started third but was quickly on leader Steve Moulton’s bumper, waiting for him to make a mistake. His chance came on lap 16 of the 25 lap race when Moulton slid a little high out of turn 4, allowing Smart to get his nose under Moulton’s rear quarter panel. Smart held it there, forcing Moulton to stay high. Smart then took the lead and held it to the checkers. Moulton finished second with Nate Weston of Norridgewock, in his first appearance of the season at 95 finishing third. Fourth went to Jeremy Glasier of Appleton with D.J. Moody or Prospect in fifth. Kris Watson of Hermon, Gene Wasson of Greenbush and Franklin’s Mike Overlock rounded out the 8 car field. Smart also won the qualifier earlier in the evening

Keith Ogden of Dedham followed her across the finish line in second, with Mike Heath of Brownville passing Matt Shaw of Burnham on the final lap to place third. Shaw took fourth with Steve Heath of Milo in fifth. The remaining finishing order was 6. Gerry Phillips, Hermon, 7. Jay Robichaud, Eddington, 8. Joshua Grant, Carmel, 9. Bradley Dolan, Winterport, 10. Bradley Norris, Ellsworth. And 11. James Johnson II, Bucksport. Elston wss also the winner of the Sport-Four qualifying race.

Shelby Kimball of Cornville finished second, after winning the last two features in a row. Third went to Ren Dore of Addison, in his first top three of the season, followed by Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton in fourth and Cody Brassbridge of Winterport fifth. Ryan Beale of Cherryfield finished 6th, followed by Mike Shaw of Troy, Al Libby of Belfast and Shawn Hamel II of Bangor, who finished in the pits following a trip up the front stretch tire wall that left him high and dry until the wrecker crew brought him back to earth. Mc Laughlin toook the qualifier.

Emma Libby of Glenburn won the Bomber feature after passing early leader Andrew Crosby of Hermon on lap 9 of the 20 lap event. Ryan Modery of Hermon closed in on Libby in the final five laps, but was unable to pass as lapped traffic held him back. Modery finished second, followed by Crosby in third, Ken Ogden of Seal Cove in fourth and David Ogden of Old Town in fifth. Kevin Seekins of Frankfort finished sixth, followed by Richard Seekins of Frankfort in seventh and Scott Bonney of Bangor in eighth. Libby was the winner of the Bomber qualifier.

Sport-Four driver Bradley Norris of Ellsworth was presented the Mainely Motorsports TV Driver of the Month award for the month of July, 2011 during intermission activities on the front stretch.

HOPKINS BACK IN 95 LATE MODEL VICTORY LANE

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins returned to victory lane in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 Saturday night to celebrate win number 8 for the season. Hopkins took the lead on lap 3 of the 35 lap race and finished 10 car lengths ahead of second place Ryan Deane of Winterport. Hopkins fourth place finish last week, caused by a tire going flat, was made worse for a while by his disqualification during a post race inspection for an allegedly illegal shock absorber. Following the inspection by track officials, which was contested by Hopkins and his crew chief, track co-owner Del Merritt took the suspect shock to a professional to have it checked. The professional judged it to be within the rules, and the disqualification was revoked. Hopkins finish and points were restored, and he remains atop the standings with 4 meets left in the season. Deane Smart of Bradley fought his way to a third place finish, followed by Dale Swoboda of Hermon in fourth and Bangor’s Jesse Smith in fifth. The remainder of the finishing order was 6. Don Alexander Jr. Carmel, 7. Nick Jenkins, Brownville, 8. Donnie Blanchard, Bangor, 9. Greg Ellis, Hermon, 10. Duane Seekins, Stockton Springs, 11. John Kalel II, Orrington, 12. Alex Waltz, Damariscotta, 13, Brenton Parritt, Steuben, 14. Shane Clark, Winterport. Seekins and Swoboda won the night’s qualifiers

D.J. Moody of Prospect took the lead from Bradley’s Deane Smart on lap 9 of the 20 lap Sportsman feature and went on the post his third win of the season. Smart finished a close second with Gene Wasson of Greenbush posting his first top three of the year. Mike Overlock of Franklin was fourth and Steve Moulton of Holden finished fifth. Moody also won the qualifying heat for the division.

In Strictly Street action, Shelby Kimball of Cornville made it two in a row as she again held off a hard challenge from Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington for the win. Kimball and McLaughlin fought for the lead throughout the 25 lap event, with each leading several times before Kimball took the lead for good on the 21st lap. McLaughlin finished a very close second with Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort finish third. Pole sitter Shawn Hamel II of Bangor came in fourth, followed by Jim Carr Jr., of Clifton. Randy Clear of Cherryfield finished 6th, with Ryan Beale, also of Cherryfield in 7th. McLaughlin was the winner of the division’s 10 lap qualifier.

Steve Heath made it two in a row and three for the season in the Sport-Four division as he came from the rear of the field to take the lead on lap 12. A pair of early race cautions kept the field bunched up making Heath’s to make his move to the front easier. Keith Ogden of Dedham finished second after leading early, followed by Hermon’s Gerry Phillips, who also had a few early laps at the front of the field. Fourth place went to points leader Bradley Norrris of Ellsworth, who took advantage of an early caution to duck into the pit to make an adjustment to his car and had to restart at the rear of the field. Carmel’s Becky Elston finished fifth, followed by Jay Robichaud of Clifton in sixth. The remaining finishing order was: 7. Matt Shaw, Burnham, 8. Mike Heath, Brownville, 9. Joshua Grant, Carmel, 10. Bradley Dolan, Winterport, 11. James Johnson II, Bucksport, 12. Brock Worster, Kingman and 13. Roy Hathorn, Brownville. Mike Heath and Norris won the qualifying heats for the division.

Ryan Modery of Hermon took the win in the Bomber division with last week’s winner Emma Libby of Glenburn finishing second. Third place went to Scott Bonney of Bangor with Andrew Crosby of Hermon finishing fourth. Ken Ogden of Seal Cove was fifth, followed by Chris Burbelo of Frankfort in sixth. Russell Blenkhorn of Bucksport finished seventh, followed by David Ogden of Old Town in eighth. Modery also won the qualifying heat.

Speedway 95 returns to action on Wednesday August 17, at 7:00 p.m. with a regular Wacky Wednesday show featuring a “ride with your favorite driver” opportunity at 6:30. The next Saturday night show is on August 20 at 7:00.

ANDREW CROSBY SCORES LITTLE ENDURO WIN AT 95

Andrew Crosby of Hermon won the battle in the Little Enduros at Speedway 95 Wednesday night when he passed pole sitter Travis Beale of Hampden on lap 23 of the caution free 25 lap series race, and went on to post his first win of the season in the division. Darren Durrell of Newburgh also worked his way past Beale on lap 23 to finish second, with Beale finishing third. Ted Ryder of Carmel was fourth and Garret Hayman of Milford came in fifth. Beale was the overall winner of the three race series, and admitted in his post race interview that he was points racing to win the series title, which is why he didn’t challenge Crosby and Durrell when they passed him with two laps to go.

Chelsea Young of Winterport returned to the winner’s circle in the Ladies division as she led the 20 lap feature from the pole to the checkers. Young was never seriously challenged as she held the lead through two restarts to take the win. Kayla Allen of Bucksport finished second with Danielle Beale of Hampden in third. Nicole Smith of Bangor and Amy Houde of Howland rounded out the top five. Young was presented the Mainely Motorsports Driver of the Month award for the month of June during the evening’s intermission break.

In the Stars of Tomorrow, Matt Kimball of Cornville held off Emma Libby of Glenburn to win his 7th feature of the season. Libby could get close whrn Kimball slid up in the corners, but Kimball had enough under the hood to keep Libby from completing the pass. Libby finished second, followed by William McCullough of Hudson and D.C.Alexander of Carmel.

Jim Carr Jr. took the lead in the pick up truck feature on the second lap and led the rest of the way to the end, posting his 6th win of the season. Peter Drake of Corinth gave chase and could see Carr’s bumper, but couldn’t muster enough speed to take the top spot from him. Drake finished second with last week’s winner, David Gray of Dixmont finishing third. Dana Harlow of Bucksport finished fourth with Jeff Overlock Jr. of Hermon picking up a fifth place finish.

Ed Cobb Jr. of LaGrange continued his winning ways in the Big Enduros, but it took him until lap 12 to take the lead away from Benji Littlefield of Brooks, who started on the pole. Shawn MacNevin battled Littlefield for the lead until Cobb took over, and hung on for a runner up finish. Third went to Erlon Noyes of Garland, with Littlefield finishing fourth, followed by Shawn Racilla of Dover-Foxcroft in fifth.

DEANE SMART TAKES SPEEDWAY 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

In a night filled with close finishes, Deane Smart of Bradley led the Late Model feature from the pole to the checkers, but had to outrun the field through two restarts to do it. The first caution came on lap 18 when Dale Swoboda of Hermon and Wayne Parritt of Steuben came together in turn 3, spinning Swoboda out of fourth place. Both drivers were sent to the rear of the field for the restart. When the green flag flew, Smart outraced Winterport’s Ryan Deane to maintain the lead until lap 29 when Donny Blanchard of Bangor, Alex Waltz of Damariscotta and Ajay Picard of Palmyra spun on the front stretch, bringing out the second yellow of the night. That time Smart outgunned Steuben’s Brenton Parrit when race resumed, and held the lead to the checkers. Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs started last in the 11 car field and worked his way up to take second from Parritt in the final to laps. Parritt finished third, with pole sitter John Kalel II of Orrington fourth. Wayne Parritt recovered from his trip to the rear of the field to finish fifth. Sixth went to Swoboda, with Hermon’s Greg Ellis in seventh. Eighth went to Picard, Waltz was ninth and Blanchard finished tenth. Ryan Deane was credited with 11th, the only car not competing when the checkered flag fell.

The 35 lap Varney Agency Series race #3 for Sport Fours was the race of the night with the top four cars all in a group when Bradley Norris of Ellsworth won by less than a foot over Milo’s Steve Heath. Using the inside groove, Norris worked his way past early leader Becky Elston of Carmel, who surrendered the lead to Norris on the 32nd lap when Elston miscalculated a little and had to brake for a slower car. Norris slipped by, only to have the yellow come out a lap later. Heath, who had also passed Elston while she was stuck behind the slower car, lined up outside Norris for the two lap dash to the checkers. It was a side by side battle all the way, with Norris barely edging Heath at the finish. Elston finished third with Mike Heath of Brownville fourth and Eddington’s Jay Robichaud in fifth. The remainder of the field in the extended length event was 6. Bradley Dolan, Winterport, 7. Ryan Kennedy, Holden, 8. Gerry Phillips, Hermon, 9. Keith Ogden, Dedham, 10. Joshua Grant, Carmel, 11. James Johnson II, Bucksport and 12. Dennis Burnes, Carmel.

The Strictly Streets ran their postponed Coca-Cola series race #3 with Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton taking the win following a lap 22 restart caused when Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort blew a tire and landed in the turn 4 tire wall. Shelby Kimball had held the lead from lap 7, when she passed the faltering Andrew McLaughlin, who started on the pole. Kimball then spun out of second place on lap 25 while racing Carr for the lead, but recovered before the yellow came out. Shawn Hamel II of Bangor then inherited the second spot, which he held to the end. Kimball finished third, followed by McLaughlin in fourth, Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort in fifth and Al Libby of Belfast in sixth.

In Sportsman action, Jeremy Glasier of Appleton managed to squeak out a win over D.J. Moody of Prospect by less than a car length as the pair raced side by side and nose to tail along with third place finisher Deane Smart of Bradley for most of the 25 lap event. Glasier and Moody swapped the lead several times, with Smart also running as high as second while subbing for the injured Doug Sinclair, who is still recovering from injuries suffered in a wreck two weeks ago. The trio raced the entire event in a close group, several car lengths ahead of fourth place finisher Steve Moulton of Holden. Mike Overlock of Franklin was fifth with Gene Wasson of Greenbush in sixth.

Andrew Crosby of Hermon made it 3 in a row in the Bomber Division when he took the lead from Emma Libby of Glenburn on the second lap of the caution free feature when she slowed momentarily on the backstretch. Crosby led the rest of the way, with Libby recovering to challenge him for the win in the final three laps. Libby finished second with Ryan Modery of Hermon a close third. Ken Ogden of Seal Cove finished in fourth with Scott Bonney of Bangor in fifth. Matt Kimball of Cornville finished sixth. The remainder of the field was 7. Darryl Ogden, Bangor,8. Kevin Seekins, Frankfort, 9. Chad Badger, Milo and 10. Charles McKusik, Abbott.
