If mid-October’s turnout and the mood among drivers and fans provided any kind of litmus test as to the future of Wiscasset Raceway, then “Maine’s Biggest & Fastest” could indeed have a bright future ahead. Things have been quiet in the hills bordering Wiscasset & Alna for much of the summer. The once buslting racetrack had fallen quiet with a “For Sale” sign replacing the sign that would typically welcome fans each weekend. But on October 15th, thanks to a large and enthusiastic group of volunteers, the track came to life for one day and the result was astounding. Over 2000 fans & supporters packed the stands on the sunny & blustery autumn day to watch nearly 170 cars circle Maine’s fastest oval as a sign of support in a cause deemed “Save Wiscasset Raceway”. Local businessmen Tony True & Dale Chadbourne got together, leased the track, and put the event together to spotlight the viability of the track to potential buyers and to keep Wicasset town noise ordinances in effect, making it easier for a buyer to keep the 42 year facility alive. The pair called it a non-profit raceday “with a twist”. Fans & drivers alike were charged a modest $5 admission fee in which all proceeds went back to sponsors who stepped up to cover the cost of putting on the event. Any money left over would be split evenly between all drivers participating. The promotion drew fans & drivers from throughout northern New England, some who had not been to the track in years. One particular guest that caught the attention of many was Wiscasset native Wilfred Cronk, the man who originally built the track back in 1968. “This day has been amazing” said Chadbourne. “It’s bigger than I ever imagined, I’m speechless”. True echoed his friends thoughts as the two recieved placques of recognition and enthusiastic appluase from the grateful audience during a break in the action. “I can’t think you guys enough. This will hopefully show someone out there, interested in buying this place, that this place can work and people want to see this place succeed”. Word came later in the day that there were as many as three interested parties at the track on the 15th taking in the show. While fans got to see many of their favorite drivers in victory lane thoughout the day, the general concensus was that the track itself and the event organizers were the big winners.

An all volunteer team headed by Tony True of Wiscasset and Dale Chadbourne of Woolwich have worked to put together the tracks first race of the 2011 season. True secured a lease agreement between all interested parties, allowing the event to take place on Saturday October 15th with a rain date on the 16th. Because of financial difficulty the track did not open this season and “there was concern that if we didn’t have one race the town noise ordinance could be changed” said True.

OFFICIAL RACING RESULTS MAY 30, 2010
(Wiscasset, ME) Sunday at The Center of Speed, Dave St. Clair told Doug White, owner of the Wiscasset Raceway, that he would need to win at least one race every season to keep bring his car to the track. It looks like we’ll have racing legend Boss Hog around for the rest of 2010 as he takes the checkered flag in the Steel’s Real Rods & Customs Late Model Sportsman feature.
The LMS feature was an exciting race with Buxton’s Danny Smart leading most of the way. Boss Hog in the #14 car kept trying the outside line but was held off by the #6. Lots of door to door racing for the lead on Sunday! There were also great battles in the pack with Rowland “Rockin’” Robinson, Nick Hinkley and Josh St. Clair all fighting for a top spot. Then one of those tough moments in racing, the #6 car was pulling away on the front stretch when the back end got loose and put Danny Smart into a slide. Boss Hog pulled into the lead and kept it to the checkered flag. Danny Smart in the #6 car had a nice recovery and battled back into the top 5.

The 2010 Mini-Stocks Division get a little twisted!
Wiscasset Raceway welcomes new sponsors.
(Wiscasset, ME) Wiscasset Raceway is happy to announce a new Division sponsor. Twisted Tea will be the 2010 sponsor for our Mini-Stocks Division. Founded in 2001 their slogan is “Be a Little Twisted!” The Twisted Tea brewmasters (yes, their job is as cool as it sounds) have been committed to brewing a hard iced tea that not only tastes like real iced tea but also delivers an incredibly smooth and refreshing drinking experience.
“I’ve heard that the Mini-Stock drivers at Wiscasset Raceway might be a little more twisted then the other drivers” said Steve Smith, marketing director at The Center of Speed. “We thought that Twisted Tea might be a good fit. I am looking forward to finding out!”
Twisted Tea will be available this race season and the Wiscasset Raceway will be hosting lot’s of Twisted events. Look for the Twisted Tea girls this season at The Center of Speed.
We would also like to welcome new Raceway supporters Boston Beer Company, brewers of Samuel Adams, “America’s World-Class Beer” and Miller Lite.
“We’re looking forward to all of the great events and promotions with Sam Adams and Miller Lite in 2010”, said Doug White, owner of the Wiscasset Raceway “we hope everyone enjoys themselves at The Center of Speed in 2010. Opening day is right around the corner, Sunday, May 23rd. BE THERE!”

NASCAR’s young guns race at Wiscasset
Andy Santerre brings his young drivers to “The Ames True Value Center of Speed 300” August 15th
(Wiscasset, ME) Cherryfield, Maine native and four time NASCAR EAST champion Andy Santerre will bring two of his young drivers to race at The Wiscasset Raceway on Sunday, August 15th. Currently the competition director for Revolution Racing, Andy is working with four young drivers that are part of NASCAR’s 2010 Drive for Diversity program.
“It’s going to be a challenge,” Santerre said, “This is a great step for these young kids to come into NASCAR and we give them a shot of a lifetime. They get to drive for our team, which is a top-notch team and have great equipment. This is not about them bringing thousands of dollars to a team. It’s about their talent.”
Talent is something Andy Santerre knows a little about.
During his 11-year career in what is now known as the K&N Pro Series East, Santerre won four consecutive championships from 2002-2005 and earned 23 wins, 85 top-five and 119 top-ten finishes in 166 starts. Santerre also spent time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in the late 90′s, and was victorious in 1999 after returning from a broken leg he suffered at the start of the season at Daytona.
Santerre joined Revolution Racing, a driver developmental team based outside of Charlotte in Mooresville, North Carolina in 2009.
Two of the young NASCAR drivers learning from Andy will be traveling with him to Maine to race in the 150-lap Late Model Feature at The Ames True Value Center of Speed 300 on Sunday, August 15th.
Sergio Pena, a 16-year old driver from Winchester, Virgina, is one of Revolution Racing’s developmental drivers that will be in Wiscasset this season. Andy didn’t know anything about this young driver until, in his NASCAR K&N Series debut, he put his car on the pole and finished second at the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown in Irwindale, California, in January.
Ryan Gifford, a 20-year old former developmental driver at Richard Childress Racing, will also be racing in Wiscasset August 15th. Gifford made four starts in the East in 2009 and finished in the top five three times. ”He’s a great driver,” Santerre said, “he has a lot of talent and is kind of the leader of the group.”
Joining Andy and the young drivers will be veteran crew chief Jerry Babb, another Maine native coming back for the big race weekend at Wiscasset. To give fans a chance to mix and mingle with our returning NASCAR veterans and young drivers the Wiscasset Raceway will have VIP tickets available for a lobster feed and meet & greet with Andy and the drivers. For more information, check the website at www.wiscassetraceway.info.
“We’re excited to give the fans at Wiscasset Raceway the chance to see the young drivers of NASCAR,” said Doug White, owner of the raceway, “we know there are also a lot of fans of Andy Santerre and we are proud to host them all at The Ames True Value Center of Speed 300 on Sunday August 15th. BE THERE!”
Wiscasset Raceway re-introduces ENDURO racing for 2010
Your browser may not support display of this image. (Wiscasset, ME) The Center of Speed, Wiscasset Raceway, is going back to the grass roots of racing for the 2010 season. After announcing all Sunday Twilight Racing, Wiscasset Raceway is proud to present another innovation for 2010. A brand new weekly program for real street cars, preparing them for racing competition Enduro style. Enduro racing is an entry class series whose rules are designed to keep costs down. Enduro cars really are “stock.” Most start out as wrecks, which are bought from auctions or junkyards. Enduro cars are much more affordable to maintain as well. For many Enduro racers, the off season means they simply throw a tarp on the car in the fall, and take it off in the spring. These cars are tough. “Speed is not necessarily what will make you win,” says one long time Enduro racer, “it’s more like longevity. You can’t win if you don’t finish.”
Anyone can prepare a street car for competition and bring it to The Center of Speed, Wiscasset Raceway, and compete in 2010. “We will have a v8/v6 Division, The Knox Bros. Auto Parts 4cylinder Division, a Mini Van Division, and a Powder Puff Division for ladies only,” says Doug White, owner of Wiscasset Raceway. “There will be one Division running each week with a Fall Brawl at the end of the season as our grand finale. These Divisions bring back an affordable way for everyone to have a chance to compete.” For more information about Enduro racing in 2010 check the Wiscasset Raceway website at www.wiscassetraceway.info . Steve Smith, sales and marketing manager for Wiscasset Raceway looks ahead to the 2010 season, “We’re looking for ways to make Maine racing more affordable and more exciting for race teams and race fans. We’ve lowered the price of our pit passes and have been working with a number of sponsors on ticket promotions.” Wiscasset Raceway is looking forward to seeing both new and veteran drivers competing in their 2010 Enduro Divisions. As Doug White is known to say, “BE THERE!”
Wiscasset Raceway and Walker Racing announce Sunday Twilight Racing!
Your browser may not support display of this image. (Wiscasset, ME) At the very beginning of stock car racing the bootleggers would race on Sunday afternoons to see who had the fastest moonshine car. The first Daytona 500 took place on a Sunday. Now Wiscasset Raceway will race on Sundays! The Center of Speed, Wiscasset Raceway, is constantly searching to improve racing in Maine and have decided to break the trend of Saturday night racing and start a new Maine racing tradition with Sunday afternoon Twilight Racing. “We feel that going to Sunday afternoon events will free up time for the fans to take care of normal work and family obligations which often happen on Friday and Saturday,” says Doug White, owner of the Wiscasset Raceway. “This is a great opportunity for race teams throughout the State to have an alternate day to be able to race!” Dave Walker, from Walker Racing, was instrumental in the switch to Sunday racing in 2010. “I’ve heard from 20 or 30 different race teams that would love to race on Sundays,” said Dave. “This will give lots of teams a chance to race more than once every weekend.”
According to Steve Smith, sales and marketing manager for the raceway, Sunday Twilight Racing is just the first of many innovations planned for 2010. “We want to make racing more affordable and more exciting for race teams and race fans,” says Steve. “We have new divisions, big events and lots more in the works for the new year.” Stay up to date on all the breaking news and big events for 2010 on the Wiscasset Raceway website www.wiscassetraceway.info. Doug White adds “We look forward to seeing all of the fans, race teams, and sponsors in 2010 for our new Funday Sunday Twilight Racing. BE THERE!”
