Claremont, NH – October 4, 2009 – The Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) completed their twelfth race of the season at Twin State Speedway. Fifteen modifieds hit the pavement for the Bot-L-Gas and RF Logic feature at Open Wheel Sunday in Claremont, NH. The #58 of Henry Sirigano and the #00 of Dave Richardi won their respective heat races and also finished in the top five for the feature. But it was the #1m of Norm Wrenn who proved unstoppable in the race to the finish.

The PFMNE 25-lap main event was led by D. Richardi and the #07 of Phil Lausier. Wrenn started in ninth, but quickly moved into the high groove, passing the #31 of Michael Crawford, the #26 of Mike Patnaude, and Sirigano on the first lap. By lap three, Wrenn tucked in behind the #4 of Cory Cleary, who saw an open door under the #11a of Dan Meservey. Coming out of turn four on the sixth lap, the #86 of Mark Charette drove outside the #34 of Mark Giordano for eleventh as he chased down a spot in the top ten. Wrenn found an opening below Cleary and passed him on lap seven for the fourth position. On lap seven, a caution came out for the #99 of Billy Joerres who spun in turns three and four.

On the restart, D. Richardi and Lausier continued to lead the field, followed closely by the #10 of Brian Vincent and Wrenn. Within one lap of the restart, Wrenn drove outside Vincent and had begun racing side by side with Lausier. The battle continued for a lap before Wrenn’s machine claimed the second position. Meanwhile, Meservey and Cleary raced side by side, vying for the fifth position, but Cleary was able to keep his advantage. Wrenn challenged D. Richardi for the lead, and the two raced side by side for several laps—with neither holding the advantage for very long. By lap fourteen, however, Wrenn’s machine completed the pass and would took over the lead for the rest of the race with D. Richardi at his heels. On that same lap, Cleary drove under Vincent to claim the fourth position. On lap sixteen, Joerres was about to pass Charette but had an unfortunate spin in turns three and four that brought out the second caution of the event.

Wrenn and D. Richardi led the field on the restart, followed by Lausier and Cleary. Sirigano restarted in seventh, but quickly made his way around Meservey and was looking to pass Cleary as well. But on lap seventeen, Cleary headed to the pits and was unable to return to the track. The third caution of the event occurred on lap twenty, when the #16 of Stan Mertz and Joerres spun on the frontstretch.

A single file restart brought on some side by side racing in the back of the field, but within five laps, it was Wrenn who claimed his tenth victory of the season. He was followed by D. Richardi, Lausier, Vincent, and Sirigano to complete the top five. Meservey, Patnaude, Mertz, Charette, Joerres, Crawford, Giordano, Cleary, the #56 of Dave Bedard, and the #07x of Robin Berghman rounded out the rest of the finishing order. Stan Mertz was the first Limited Pro Four to cross the finish line, followed by Joerres and Giordano.

The PFMNE’s next race will be at the D. Anthony Venditti Memorial at Seekonk Speedway on Saturday.

Winchester, NH – September 26, 2009 – The Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) completed their eleventh race of the season on Saturday at Monadnock Speedway. The Bot-L-Gas and RF Logic-sponsored race brought out the best car count of 2009, with a total of 21 cars. The #5 of Dan Meservey, Jr. and the #83 of Franky Perry each won a heat race, but it was the #1m of “Stormin’ Norman” Wrenn who claimed the victory, his ninth of the season.

The PFMNE were led by the #00 of Dave Richardi and the #13 of George Sherman as the field took the track for their 25-lap feature. As the green flag waved, the #07 of Phil Lausier advanced from his fourth starting position into second, around the #12 of Rob Richardi, Jr. and Sherman. The #10 of Brian Vincent followed close behind Lausier to claim the third position. Towards the back of the pack, the #19 of Tim D’Amico passed under the #86 of Mark Charette and the #31 of Michael Crawford for the eleventh position. But on lap three, Richardi Jr. and Sherman got loose and made contact heading into the backstretch, necessitating the first caution of the event.

Before the restart, the #39 of Travis McCalister headed to the infield for the remainder of the race. When racing got underway again, it was D. Richardi and Lausier who led the field. D’Amico moved under the #16 of Stan Mertz to claim the eighth position. Vincent was able to move himself around Lausier to claim the bridesmaid spot, but then the second caution came out, slowing all progress.

The restart quickly became a caution when D’Amico found himself in the frontstretch wall; he was unable to return to the event. Dave Richardi and Vincent led the field on the restart, followed closely by Lausier and the #4 of Cory Cleary—who had started the feature in tenth. Perry drove his machine passed the #11a of Dan Meservey, while the #49 of Joe Lemay headed pit side. Wrenn drove under the #07x of Robin Berghman to capture the ninth position; and Cleary was able to steal the third spot away from Lausier. On lap five, however, the caution flag was brought out for #34 of Mark Giordano, who spun alone on the frontstretch.

On this restart, D. Richardi and Vincent led the field again. Wrenn drove into the seventh spot, after moving under Charette and the #99 of Billy Joerres; and within one more lap, he’d driven under Meservey and Lausier to claim a spot in the top five. On lap seven, D. Richardi got loose coming out of turns three and four; Vincent was able to pass him to claim the lead. Meservey, Jr. was making an impressive run through the field from his 20th starting position; on lap nine, he passed Meservey for seventh. On lap ten, the caution flag was displayed for the #26 of Mike Patnaude who spun.

On the restart, Vincent and D. Richardi took the green with Perry and Wrenn at their heels. One lap later, Meservey and the #60 of Andy Majors were putting on some great side-by-side racing, with the nose of Majors’ machine holding a slight advantage. On lap twelve, however, Lausier spun in turn two, bringing out another caution.

When racing got underway again, it was Vincent, Perry, Wrenn, D. Richardi, and Cleary in the top five. Majors moved from seventh into sixth position when he passed under Meservey, Jr. Fighting their way to the front, Richardi, Jr. followed Lausier as they passed under Joerres and Charette. On lap fifteen, Wrenn moved his machine ahead of Perry to claim second. By lap nineteen, Wrenn had caught up to Vincent and had begun challenging him for the lead. But on the next lap, Perry and Cleary made contact, and Cleary’s machine spun on the backstretch. Cleary parked his car for the rest of the night, while Perry restarted at the rear of the field.

Because there were only five laps to go, the PFMNE had a single file restart. But on the first attempt, D. Richardi spun and brought out the caution. He drove into the infield, where he remained for the rest of the race, while Meservey, Jr. headed into the pits. Once racing began again, Wrenn moved outside Vincent on the backstretch, but they stayed side-by-side for a lap before Wrenn held the advantage. When the checkers unfurled, Wrenn claimed the win, followed closely by Vincent, Majors, Meservey, and Berghman to round out the top five. Right behind them, Lausier, Richardi, Jr., Perry, Patnaude, Giordano, Charette, Cleary, D. Richardi, Meservey, Jr., Joerres, Mertz, Sherman, D’Amico, Lemay, Crawford, and McCalister rounded out the rest of the field. Charette was the first Limited driver to cross the line, followed by Joerres and Mertz.

Winchester, NH – August 15, 2009 – In the sweltering heat of a genuine summer day, the Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) completed their ninth race of the season at Monadnock Speedway. Sponsored by Bot-L-Gas and RF Logic, the 25-lap main event showcased 16 Pro Fours. The #60 of Andy Major—in his debut event for 2009—won the first qualifying heat while the #1m of Norm Wrenn won the other. But it was the #83 of Franky Perry that drove his machine into victory lane at the end of the night to capture his first win of the 2009 season.

When the green flag unfurled for the feature, Perry started on the pole with the #12 of Rob Richardi, Jr. to his outside. From his fourteenth starting position, Wrenn moved past Major and the #86 of Mark Charette. But Major followed closely on his heels. Wrenn and Major continued making their way to the front when they passed the #16 of Stan Mertz, who was holding steady in the middle of the pack.

But the first caution of the event was flown on lap six when the #34 of Mark Giordano spun coming out of turns three and four. In his first race with the PFMNE, the #26 of Mike Patnaude headed to the pits with mechanical failure before the restart. On the restart, Richardi, Jr. drove by Perry to claim the lead while Major moved under Lausier to capture the fourth position. Wrenn continued his move ahead by passing the #00 of Dave Richardi and the #11 of Keith Caruso, but Wrenn headed to the pits when he spun and cut a tire, necessitating the second caution on lap eleven.

He was able to change his tire and make it back out for the restart, as Major drove his Pro Four under Perry and Richardi, Jr. to become the third leader of the event. The #10 of Brian Vincent, who started fifth, moved his car into the top three, forcing Perry into fourth. Wrenn moved under the #11a of Dan Meservey for fifth. Both Richardi’s were forced to quit racing when they encountered mechanical failure on lap fifteen. One lap later, Joerres spun in turns one and two to bring out the third yellow of the event.

On the restart, Meservey drove under Caruso to make his claim on the sixth position. Within a few laps, Wrenn moved into third and soon stole second away from Vincent in turns three and four. Major spun on lap 20, and Wrenn was called to the rear for the assist as the fourth yellow of the event waved.

Vincent suffered irreparable damage and headed pit-side. Lausier, too, was forced to the pits because his motor broke on the restart. The race would not stay green for long as Joerres went spinning for the second time. Following a brief caution period, Wrenn and Charette spun on the frontstretch; and another caution followed. Both were unable to return to the event. After a red flag for track cleanup, the feature got underway again.

Major started second to last on the restart, but made his way around Giordano on the outside and under Meservey on the backstretch a few laps later. In the end, he came up just short, as Franky Perry picked up his first career Pro Four win.

Major, Meservey, Caruso, and Giordano rounded out the top five. Joerres, Mertz, Wrenn, Vincent, and Lausier crossed the line in positions six through ten. Charette, Richardi, Jr., D. Richardi, Cleary, Mike Patnaude, and Travis McCalister—also in his first event of the season—rounded out the rest of the field. Giordano was the first Limited driver to cross the line, followed by Joerres and Mertz to round out the top three.

Scarborough, ME – August 2, 2009 – The Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) completed their eighth race as part of the Four Cylinder Nationals, sponsored by Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment, at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Sunday. It was the #1m of  “Stormin’ Norman” Wrenn that thundered his way from last to victory lane for the seventh time this year.

The series gridded a 15-car field for the 39-lap feature—in honor of the PFMNE’s 39th anniversary. In what was to be his first appearance of the season, the #00 of Dave Richardi was unable to complete his heat or return for the feature when his machine encountered mechanical difficulties. The same held true for the #83 of Franky Perry and the #68 of Eric Trask as well.

Taking the green flag was the #11a of Dan Meservey and the #13 of George Sherman in the front row. The #29 of Matt Sagar, who started in fifth, worked his way passed the #07x of Robin Berghman and the #12 of Rob Richardi, Jr. on the inside. On lap two, Sherman took the lead away from Meservey. Meanwhile, at the back of the pack, the #10 of Brian Vincent and Wrenn’s #1m worked their way through the traffic, passing under the #07 of Phil Lausier in the process. One lap later, Sagar drove his machine around Meservey and Sherman to become the new race leader. The #4 of Cory Cleary started in 10th and made his way through the field, passing Berghman on lap 4, with Wrenn close behind. Five laps into the event, Richardi Jr. saw an opportunity and took it—passing Sherman on the frontstretch for the bridesmaid position. Wrenn moved into third after racing side-by-side with Sherman.

A caution came out on lap twelve, when Cleary, Meservey, and Lausier spun in turns three and four. On the restart, Sagar exploded into the lead with Wrenn following in the low groove from his third place restarting position. Within two laps, Vincent passed Berghman for seventh, and Bedard began closing in on the #07x also. It was on this same lap that Richardi Jr. slowed on the fronstretch, bringing his Richardi Automotive machine to the pits after it began billowing smoke.

The caution came out for the second time on lap twenty-one when Sagar spun. On the restart, Wrenn and Vincent held the first and third positions, but when the green flag unfurled, they roared passed Cleary, who had restarted in second. On the backstretch, Sagar—who had to start at the end of the lead lap cars—powered under Berghman for a spot in the top five. But that glory was short-lived when he was forced pit-side with mechanical failure. With fourteen laps to go, Bedard and Crawford kept up their battle in the middle of the pack, but Bedard continued to hold the advantage.

Wrenn, Vincent, and Cleary made up a close top three going into the final ten laps of the feature event. When the two-to-go signal was shown, Cleary made his move under Vincent for second. When the white flag unfurled, Crawford made his move around Bedard. In turns three and four, however, Cleary spun before he reached the checkered flag; he was able to get it going again and cross the line. Wrenn took home the win, followed closely by Vincent and Cleary to round out the top three. Berghman; Lausier; Crawford; Bedard; D’Amico; Mertz; Meservey; Sagar; Richardi, Jr.; Sherman; and Eric McGovern rounded out the top ten. Crawford was the first Limited driver to cross the finish line, and Bedard and Mertz rounded out the top three.

The PFMNE have a week off, but will return to racing on Saturday, August 15, at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH.

Lee, NH – July 24, 2009 – The Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) once again battled Mother Nature yesterday as they completed their seventh race of the 2009 season on Friday, July 24, at Lee USA Speedway. Sponsored by Bot-L-Gas and RF Logic, the 25-lap main event was the second round of the Triple Crown Series. The #1m of Norm Wrenn and the #4 of Cory Cleary provided the entertainment as both worked their way from the back of the field to the front. But Wrenn had just enough to hold off the advances of Cleary as the checkers unfurled—claiming his sixth victory of the season.

When the 11-car field took the green flag, it was Franky Perry and Rob Richardi, Jr. bringing them down.  Perry got the advantage with Robin Berghman looking inside of Wrenn.  The two continued to battle until Wrenn made contact with the outside retaining wall, causing him to lose several positions.  But by lap four, he made up the ground he lost and moved by Berghman. Two laps later, Cleary used the outside lane to pass Vincent coming out of turn two. Wrenn continued his quest for the top spot on lap seven, as he drove around the #07 of Phil Lausier, the #13 of George Sherman, and Richardi, Jr.  He then set his eyes on the leader, Franky Perry, who continued to set the pace. Meanwhile, Cleary drove his Jannell Ford machine under Lausier in turns three and four to make his claim on a top five position. Sherman moved his modified into third around Richardi, Jr.—and one lap later, Cleary passed the #12 family-owned machine as well. On lap twelve, Cleary looked to the inside of Sherman for third. Wrenn made the winning pass on Perry going down the backstretch with the field receiving the ten-to-go signal.  Cleary, too, passed Perry, wrestling the second position away from the early race leader.

Wrenn went made it two for two in Triple Crown races with Cleary, Perry, Sherman, and Richardi Jr. rounding out the top five. Lausier, Berghman, Brian Vincent, Joe Lemay, Michael Crawford, and Stan Mertz comprised the rest of the field. Lemay was the first Limited Pro Four across the line, followed by Crawford and Mertz.

The next event for the four-cylinder modifieds will be held at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway next Sunday, August 2, for the Four Cylinder Nationals, presented by Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment. The race is the culminating event in a weekend full of events  scheduled to raise funds for breast cancer.  For more details, visit the PFMNE homepage at www.pro4mods.com.

Stafford, CT – The Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) battled with mother nature but were able to complete their fifth race of the 2009 campaign as part of CarQuest Xtreme Tuesday at Stafford Motor Speedway. The #1m of “Stormin’ Norman” Wrenn continued his undefeated season, but not without a fight from the #10 of Brian Vincent—the heat race winner.

After a one-hour rain delay, the 25-lap feature event got under way with fifteen cars parading around the 1/2-mile oval. The #86 of Mark Charette was unable to make it out after qualifying due to mechanical failure. When the green flag waved, the #13 of George Sherman was on the pole with Vincent’s Sprague’s Auto-sponsored modified on the outside. As they rolled off of turn two, Vincent powered by Sherman on the outside.  Meanwhile, having started in the 14th position, Wrenn had begun making his way through the field, following the #83 of Franky Perry and the #29 of Matt Sagar. Progress was slowed, however, before two laps could be completed when the #34 of Mark Giordano went spinning in turns three and four.

On the restart, the #4 of Cory Cleary moved his Tools 4 Hire 4-cylinder under Sherman for second. By lap 3, Wrenn had driven his Bot-L-Gas modified past four others to challenge the #12 of Rob Richardi, Jr. for the fourth position. Motoring off of the second corner, Wrenn moved to the inside of Richardi, Jr., eventually besting the N. Easton, MA-native one lap later. On lap 6, the #11a of Dan Meservey and Sagar were able to move their machines passed Perry to claim the seventh and eighth positions, respectively. Sagar and Meservey would race door-to-door until the Meservey Family Restaurant machine dove low and slowed considerably. When he was unable to make it to the pit area, the second yellow flag of the event was displayed.

As the cars lined up for the restart, the top five running wereVincent, Cleary, Sherman, Wrenn, and Richardi Jr. At the drop of the green, Sagar drove his Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment machine by Richardi Jr. for a spot in the top five and Wrenn took the opportunity to move into the third position. By the time the scoreboard showed 13, the racing began to heat up for the top three. Cleary challenged Vincent for the lead, with Wrenn not too far behind. Coming out of turn four, Cleary went high only to have his progress slowed by the third caution flag of the event for Billy Joerres, whose car came to rest sideways in the middle of turns of one and two. As the field began to assemble for the restart, Crawford and Sherman both brought their vehicles down pit road with mechanical difficulties.

The restart was aborted when the cars came up to speed before the start cone.  After the dust settled, Cleary headed to the infield with a flat tire, ending a strong run for the family-owned mount.  The second restart stuck and Wrenn moved into the lead, with Vincent close behind him and Sagar also gaining ground. As the white flag came out, Vincent closed the distance between himself and Wrenn, but it was all-for-not as he was unable to complete the pass before the checkers.

Wrenn took home his fifth consecutive win as Vincent and Sagar rounded out the top three. Positions six through ten went to Richardi Jr., Lausier, Perry, Berghman, Giordano, D’Amico, and Mertz. Joerres, Cleary, Sherman, Crawford, and Meservey rounded out the field.

The next race for the 4-cylinder modifieds will be the highly-acclaimed Open Wheel Wednesday at Seekonk Speedway on July 15, 2009.
