Murphy Flats in Stamford, NY next stop for Rock Maple Racing snocross series

DERRY, NH (Jan. 30, 2009) - With another round of heavy snow
falling across much of the northeast, winter powersports enthusiasts
are “living the dream.” Trail systems from upstate New York to
northern New England are reported to be in the best condition riders
have enjoyed in several years.
And just like their trail-riding counterparts, snowmobile
racers are ready to get back on the throttle as this beautiful, snowy
season rolls on. Race teams from around the northeast will suit up for
competition once again on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 7-8, as Rock Maple
Racing (RMR) gets set for Round 5 on the 2008-09 snocross schedule at
Murphy Flats in Stamford, New York.
Spectator gates will open at 8 a.m. each day, and racing will
get under way promptly at 9 a.m. Admission is $10 per day for adults.
Children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paying
adult. Pit passes valid through the weekend will be available for an
extra $10.
To get to Stamford, take I-88 West off the New York State
Thruway. Take Routes 10 and 7 South at Exit 20, then follow NY-Rte. 10
as it merges left. After turning left at River St., turn left onto
Main St., which is NY-Rte. 23. There will be signs to guide you to the
track from there.
Along with a full card of racing in all classes from West
series teams, fans in Stamford will also enjoy points races for Pro
and Semi-Pro teams in RMR’s Central series. New York natives Jason and
Matt Rudd, of Rodman, will battle top-ranked Pros like Quebec’s Danny
Poirier and former champions Jason and Matt Boron, of Leverett,
Massachusetts. Fans of Ski-doo, Polaris and Arctic Cat all have riders
to support on their favorite brand as manufacturer parity is alive and
well in 2009.
This race is hosted by the Central Catskill Trail Association.
Formed in 2001, the CCTA has grown from a small snowmobile club to a
500-member organization. With five Class-A groomers maintaining 87
miles of trails, the club provides area snowmobilers with plenty of
fabulous riding opportunities.
The CCTA is pleased to have support for this event from the
Delaware National Bank of Delhi. This highly respected financial
institution has proudly served area residents since first opening its
doors in 1839. In the fall of 1998, a branch was opened in Middletown,
NY, followed by a second branch in Davenport, NY, in 2007. The
Delaware National Bank of Delhi is truly a community-minded company,
with standards in customer service second to none.
In the first round of action for West series teams this season,
Joey Stock registered a hat trick with three final round wins. Stock,
of Otego, NY, claimed the Semi-Pro Open final over Cory Roman and
Andrew Bailey. In the Stock 600 class, Tim Randall chased Stock across
the line with Kyle Becker a solid third. Bailey and Clinton Ballou
filled out the podium in Semi-Pro 400 as Stock capped a great weekend
of racing in his home state.
Rock Maple Racing is now in its 17th consecutive season of
snocross competition. Along with the Central, West and East series
snocross tours, RMR also operates the Can-Am series for ATVs during
the summer months. For more information, go to www.rockmaple.com.

SEVEN-TIME NASCAR MOD CHAMP MIKE STEFANIK ENTERS INDOOR RACE

PROVIDENCE, RI ? Seven-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Mike
Stefanik will try to add another win to his illustrious resume when
high-powered three-quarter size race cars (TQ-Midgets) come to the
Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., on March 6-7.
Stefanik, 50, of Coventry, R.I., is scheduled to drive a Colin
Martin-owned No. 26 Spitfire Chassis entry in the first indoor race to
happen in Rhode Island since 1959.
“It will be something different,” Stefanik said. “I’ve never sat in a
TQ-Midget before, let alone race one indoors.”
The races will be right in front of the fans, on a concrete oval track
built around the outside of the arena’s hockey rink. All seats will
provide spectators with an excellent view of the thrilling, high-speed
competition with the best drivers in the Northeast competing.
Each night will feature complete shows, including heat races,
consolation races and a 20-car feature, for both classes.
Stefanik’s presence in outdoor racing is unprecedented. He was named
the second greatest NASCAR Modified driver of all-time in 2003. His
seven series=2 0championships are tied with Jerry Cook for second
all-time, trailing only the late Richie Evans.
In 2006, Stefanik tied Evans with nine overall championships in
NASCAR-sanctioned competitions, including the unique situation where
in 1997 and 1998 when he won both the Modified and Busch North Series
(now Camping World East Series) championships in the same year.
From 1989 through 1998, Stefanik won four championships in the NASCAR
Whelen Modified Tour, and was an accomplished Busch North Series
driver, winning the 1997 and 1998 titles.
In doing so, he became the first driver to win two NASCAR
championships in consecutive years.
Following these seasons, Stefanik moved to the Craftsman Truck Series
(now Camping World Series) and finished in the top-10 nine times
during 1999, achieving the Rookie of the Year honors.
Stefanik has since returned to the Modified ranks and he=2 0is looking
forward to representing his state in the TQ-Midget class.
“Rhode Island had the first oval track race and we have a lot of race
fans, but we don’t have any race tracks any longer,” Stefanik said.
“There seems to be a lot of interest in this race. As soon as I heard
about an indoor race coming to Providence, I wanted to be a part of
it.”
Martin has fielded some of the top indoor TQ-Midgets.
He fielded an entry for Frank Fischer in the Gambler’s Classic, which
was recently completed at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Due to
work commitments, Fischer is unable to attend the races in Providence.
Stefanik knows first-hand of Martin’s successful race cars.
“I went to one indoor race in Atlantic City and Joey Payne drove one
of Colin’s cars to victory,” Stefanik said. “I know Joey Payne is
considered one of the Mac Daddy’s of indoor racing.
“I talked to Colin about what it’s like to race indoors. He said I
should just go, jump in it and have fun. I guess I’ll be doing some
on-the-job training right at the event.”
Stefanik isn’t the only NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion who will
participate in the two-day event. Defending series champion Ted
Christopher of Plainville, Conn., is the first to file an official
entry form. Christopher won the Gambler’s Classic TQ-Midget race in
January.
“I think this will be a great event for this area,” Stefanik said.
“The Modifieds are really strong in the Northeast, plus there is a lot
of Midget Car history too. Who would have ever th ought we would be
racing indoors in the winter?”
In addition to the TQ-Midgets, the programs will feature Senior Champ
Karts, a division that features speeds close to that of the
TQ-Midgets.
Entries for the event are limited to 36 TQ-Midgets and 36 Senior Champ Karts.
Tickets can be purchased at the Dunkin’ Donuts Box Office, all
Ticketmaster outlets, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or online at:

Friday tickets are $20 (front row for adults and children), $15 (adult
seats) and $10 (children age 12 and under). Saturday tickets are $25
(front row for adults and children), $20 (adults) and $10 (children
age 12 and under).
Show i nformation is available at Len Sammons Productions by calling

Showdown Champion Helps Extreme Makeover In Connecticut

The Kobyluck Companies To Be Featured On “Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition” February 8th

Waterford, Conn. (January 30, 2009): The Kobyluck
Companies, a family of businesses dedicated to providing quality
concrete, construction aggregate, site development and trucking
services to residential and commercial builders in southeastern
Connecticut, announced today that it will be featured on an upcoming
episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as the providers of the
demolition, site work, and concrete for the Girard Family home in
Voluntown, Conn.

The Girard family lost their home to a fire a year ago.
The Girards moved from a tent to a tiny camper then to their mother’s
house, which is almost 40 miles away from where the children go to
school. Shortly afterwards the Girard’s faced a double tragedy when
husband Thomas and their eldest son Marc drowned.

“I’m proud that our companies and employees can make a
difference in the life of this family,” said President, Matt Kobyluck,
who recently won NASCAR’s biggest short track race of the year at
Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif). “I believe strongly that we
should all help out where we can in our community. The guys here
volunteered their time to come and do the work ? sometimes spending
more than 24 hours here without any sleep. My father, Dan, even
canceled a trip to Florida so that he could be a part of it. It’s
amazing what was accomplished in such a short time. I never thought it
could be possible.”

The Kobyluck Companies, which is owned and operated by
brothers Matt, Mark, Chris, and Josh Kobyluck and their parents Dan
and Maureen Kobyluck, joined local builder Home Designs by Bruno and
hundreds of volunteers and workers to build a castle-themed house
complete with solar panels and a geothermal heating and water system.
The house is one of only a handful in the state of Connecticut to be
certified as green.

The Kobyluck Companies crew endured severe weather
conditions, including near-zero degree temperatures and torrential
downpours that made portions of the area a huge mud pit.

“We brought down some gravel to make some of the muddy
areas a little more passable, but it was pretty challenging conditions
to work in,” said Kobyluck. “I hope that they show what these workers
endured during the week-long process. I think everyone here at the
Kobyluck Companies took a great deal away from this experience. Being
a part of it really brought out the best in everyone.”

Matt Kobyluck, the 2008 NASCAR Camping World Series East
Champion, won the Toyota All-Star Showdown in a wild three-car battle
on the last lap of the race. His win, which was nationally televised
on SPEED Channel, was the first time a driver has ever repeated a
victory in what has been dubbed short track’s Daytona 500. Rib Hillis,
one of the designers from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition attended the
event as Kobyluck’s guest.

The Girard Family episode airs on ABC Sunday, February 8 at 8 pm ET.

Accident Sidelines Dillon At All-Star Showdown

Accident Sidelines Dillon At All-Star Showdown

Irwindale, Calif. (January 27, 2009): Austin Dillon and
his Lance Deiters-led Shell-Pennzoil race team didn’t have much time
to find a race-winning set-up for the All-Star Showdown Saturday
night. Rain halted all but five laps of practice, and teams could only
hope the combination they brought was good enough to get to victory
lane. Deiters stepped up to the challenge with a solid set-up, but a
lap 153 accident forced the team to park the car for the night and
settle with a 30th place finish.

The event, which featured drivers from all of NASCAR’s
touring divisions including entrants from the Cup and Truck Series,
was squeezed into a single day after rain only allowed a single 45
minute practice session on Friday. Qualifying took place on Saturday
just two hours before driver introductions with Dillon turning a lap
of 97.046 mph for a 19th place starting spot.

Dillon wheeled the Shell-Pennzoil Chevy up to 10th during
the first 100-lap segment, but dropped back to 21st before the
mandatory 10-minute break, when teams could make adjustments to their
cars. The team was confident for the second 100-lap segment, but bad
luck was just around the corner.

Dillon had worked his way up to 10th for a lap 142 restart
when Ron Hornaday drove into the leader Brian Ickler. Cars scrambled
everywhere and Dillon got caught up in the wreck. The Shell-Pennzoil
Chevrolet had been hit twice before he made it to pit road. Deiter and
his crew patched up the damage and got him back in the race for the
restart.

Less than ten laps later, Dillon was in the wrong place at
the wrong time when polesitter Chris Johnson got turned around. Dillon
went high to try and avoid, but Johnson spun up the track and
collected the Shell-Pennzoil machine. Dillon got it fired back up
again, but the damage was extensive and the team had to park it for
the night.

DRIVER QUOTE

“The guys did a great job getting the No. 3 Shell-Pennzoil
Chevrolet put back together, and I had a really good car even after it
was wrecked the first time. On that last one, I couldn’t get out of
the way and I just got pulled right into that mess. The car was pretty
tore up and we were shot. We really wanted to win this one, and I
really love the racetrack. It’s definitely a driver’s racetrack. I
wish the East Series ran out here a little more often.”

Poirier sweeps Pro finals at New England Dragway for Rock Maple Racing
snocross series; Pfeifer snags two wins for Ski-doo with Semi-Pro
sweep

EPPING, NH (Jan. 26, 2009) - Old site, new site, it just
doesn’t seem to matter any more to Danny Poirier. If there’s a track
ready for competition and a green flag in the air, he’s determined to
be the first one across the finish line.
Poirier’s dream season of 2009 rolled on Sunday afternoon with
another clean sweep of the Pro finals, as Rock Maple Racing (RMR)
completed Round 4 on the 2008-09 snocross campaign at historic New
England Dragway.
Despite cold temperatures and a persistent biting wind, RMR
delivered a successful debut for snocross racing at New England’s only
1/4-mile dragway. Nearly 500 entries filled the staging lanes, while
thousands of enthusiastic fans cheered for their favorite brands and
riders.
Kenny Murphy grabbed the holeshot in Pro Stock, but Poirier
(Hulten Speed Sports/Polaris), of St. Theodore, QC, blasted by on the
inside going down the backstretch and never looked back. Matt Boron
(D&Z Racing/Ski-doo) slotted into fourth early on but worked his way
up to second at the finish, while Pro rookie Chris Chico
(Amsoil/Arctic Cat) made a late-race pass on multi-time champion Jason
Boron to claim third.
In Pro Open, Poirier got the holeshot and powered on to post
his sixth victory in eight starts this season. It’s the kind of first
half every racer dreams of, and he’s carrying the kind of momentum
that leads to class championships. John O’Malley backed up his victory
at Pit-X with a strong runner-up finish, while Jason Rudd put in a
solid ride for third.
Joe Lemieux notched his second straight victory in a
hotly-contested Pro Vet final. Rene Desrochers chased Lemieux in the
early laps but faded to fourth at the finish. Cory Culberson piloted
his Polaris up to second, while Joel Santy was third. Former champion
Michelle Lemieux claimed the Pro Women’s final over cousin Steffanie
and Phoenix, NY-based Paige Calderwood.
In Semi-Pro action Sunday, southern New Hampshire fans
witnessed a changing of the guard. Aaron Pfeifer, of Blossvale, NY,
posted his first-ever Central series sweep of the liquid-cooled
classes (600 Stock and Open) with two brilliant performances. Lincoln
Lemieux was first into the corner in Semi-Pro Open, but Pfeifer
powered by before Turn 2 and led until the checkered flag waved. Jake
Melville, who has developed into a fierce racer, came home second
while Michael George claimed third. Several new faces have suddenly
found themselves in the Semi-Pro spotlight, and it’s exciting to see
who shines and who runs for cover.
In the Stock final, Pfeifer checked out early and went on to
record his second win of the day. Brad Davis (Southside Sales/Polaris)
looked impressive on his way to second, while Melville completed a
great weekend with a strong third.
Local favorites Joey Mosher (Saturday) and Jake DaSilva
(Sunday) of Derry earned top honors in Sport Super Stock action. Chris
Ingles and Jared White followed Mosher across the line on Saturday’s
final, while Mosher and Andrew Bailey filled out Sunday’s podium.
Mosher also claimed Sunday’s Sport Stock 600 final over John Kent and
Dylan Bisson. Derek Vitiello made it a Salem sweep with his victory in
the Sport Stock 600 Fan final over “Wild” Will Fletcher of nearby
Westmoreland, New Hampshire. Aaron Adams (Sport 500) and Emerson Cayer
(Sport Performance) complete our list of Sport division winners on a
bright-but-frosty day at New England Dragway.
In the Junior division Sunday, Jake Scott came away with three
final-round victories. The young athlete from Port Jefferson, NY,
earned top honors in Jr. 14-15 Stock 500, 14-15 Stock 600 Fan and
16-17 Stock 500. Other winners include Matt Cameron (10-13 Stock 600
Fan); Leo Patenaude (10-13 Stock 380 Fan); Lucas Livingston (8-10 300
Freestyle Sat.) And Hunter Patenaude (8-10 300 Freestyle Sunday).
Other winners over the weekend in Central series action include
Joey Stock (Semi-Pro Stock 440); Cory Culberson (Plus 35 Masters);
Scott Edwards (Plus 25 Stock); KC Anderson (Women Stock 600 Sat.);
Sarah Acker (Jr. Girls 10-13 Stock 600 Fan); Janell Smith (Women Stock
500); Steffanie Lemieux (Women Stock 600 Sunday); and John Kent (Trail
600 Saturday and Sunday).
RMR’s East series teams were also in action over the weekend in
Epping. Final round winners there include Matt Simonson (Semi-Pro
Open); Jake DaSilva (Sport Stock 600); Paige Calderwood (Women Stock
600); Nick St. Amand (Jr. 14-15 Stock 500 and 16-17 Stock 500); and
Montana Jess (Jr. 10-13 Stock 380 Fan and Jr. 10-13 Stock 600 Fan).
Rock Maple Racing would like to thank New England Dragway
general manager Joe Lombardo and his staff for graciously hosting this
historic debut for snocross. With ample room for spectator and racer
parking, great highway access and a reputation for excellence in
motorsports, we were honored to sanction a race on your hallowed
grounds.
Next up for RMR is Round 2 on the West series schedule, slated
for Feb. 7-8 at Murphy Flats in Stamford, New York. For full results

All-Star Showdown Proves To Be Tough Night For Schrader Racing

All-Star Showdown Proves To Be Tough Night For Schrader Racing

Irwindale, Calif. (January 26, 2009): The All-Star
Showdown held at the Toyota Speedway of Irwindale proved to be a
disappointing night for the Ken Schrader Racing trio of Ricky
Carmichael, Jamie Hayes, and Dakoda Armstrong. Carmichael and Hayes
fell out of the race due to accidents and finished 34th and 37th
respectively. Armstrong was unable to start the feature event after
failing to qualify through time trials or the open race.

Rain halted all but a 45-minute practice session Friday
and postponed qualifying until Saturday morning, however, more rain
pushed the schedule back and teams were forced to time trial without
any further practice Saturday afternoon.

Armstrong’s lap of 19.089 seconds was not enough to get in
the field on his time alone, and he was forced to start the open race,
which gave the winner a starting position in the field. Armstrong went
a lap down in the 50-lap race, but gained some valuable seat time
behind the wheel of a full-fendered stock car.

“We only got five laps of practice so I turned pretty much
all of my laps in that race. The last couple of laps we got better and
better. It was a neat experience and I have to thank Ken Schrader for
giving me the opportunity to race in these cars,” said Armstrong.

Hayes started the Showdown from the 31st position while
Carmichael started 29th. Eight laps into the event, Hayes got caught
up in a three-car accident in turns three and four. The damage was too
extensive to continue the race, and the team parked the J.L. Hendrick
Auto Chevrolet for the night.

“It is what it is, but we broke the lower control arm and
there was a small hole in the radiator,” explained Hayes. “We would
have been laps down before we got it fixed and would have been out
there risking the equipment. This isn’t a points race so we cut our
losses and parked it for the day rather than go out there and try to
gain one or two spots.”

Carmichael, on the other hand, seemed to have the most
promising run going for him at the conclusion of the first segment.
The No. 4 Monster Energy Drink Chevrolet did go a lap down prior to
the break, but Carmichael was the receipient of the beneficiary award,
which gave him his lap back prior to the green flag.

On lap 142, Carmichael became a victim of circumstance
when he got collected in an accident that occurred when Ron Hornaday
and Brian Ickler got together. He, too, was done for the night.

“It was just a crappy weekend for me. We missed the set up
in practice and I didn’t qualify well. Right there put me in a bad
position. I started getting up there (through the field) and I got
tangled up in a caution and got hit. It was a downhill slide from that
point,” explained Carmichael. “We started off in a bad position and
didn’t do anything with it really.”

Kobyluck The First To Make It Two - Earns Second Toyota All-Star Showdown title

IRWINDALE, Calif. - Matt Kobyluck emerged from a wild three-way battle
for first Saturday night to became the first driver to win two NASCAR
Toyota All-Star Showdown.

Joey Logano slid up into Peyton Sellers while going for the lead in
Turn 4 coming to the checkered flag. Kobyluck, who was running third,
came across the start-finish line a nose behind Logano. Logano was
penalized for his move, though, giving Kobyluck a second NASCAR Toyota
All-Star Showdown to go with the one he won in 2006.

Trevor Bayne wound up second, followed by Jason Bowles. Logano finished 40th.

“I saw it coming,” Kobyluck said. “So I laid up a little, got on the
brakes and cut to the bottom so that I could miss it all.

“The writing was on the wall. I’ve been here and doing this enough to
know what the outcome was going to be one way or the other. I just
didn’t want to get caught up in it.”

Johnny Borneman and Matt Crafton rounded out the top five.

Kobyluck’s win in the 2006 event also featured a three-car,
side-by-side skirmish for the win. In that one, it was Eric Holmes
that went spinning while Kobyluck held off Sean Caisse for the win.

Kobyluck won his first NASCAR Camping World Series East championship in 2008.

This was the first year the event - which has earned the title the
‘Daytona 500 of short-track racing’ - was held in January after the
first five were held in the fall.

Chris Johnson won the Coors Light Pole Award, while Andrew Myers won
the 50-lap ‘Last Chance’ race.

Mike Johnson won the Late Model race; Travis Thirkettle won the Super
Late Model race.
